i dont like this drug at all, it has a very high resistance rate so it is a total failure for hbv like lamivudine, i do fear they are trying to sell some like they do with lamivudine for pregnancy or for hbv prevention during chemio with all the damage possible from hbv mutations

i think the only safe drug on hbv is tenofovir which has a very large use since used on hiv too since 2000, i am sure intrest to sell failed drugs can sometimes be more potent than safety

Very sorry to hear about your son.
Telbivudine is a Category B drug, so is Tenofovir. I hope this case is reported to the Pregnancy Registry

Do not take Tyzeka while pregnant and particularly while breastfeeding!

My wife was prescribed this drug in her third trimester by a negligent gastroenterologist.  He also told us when we asked about breastfeeding, "What;s good for the mother is good for the baby". Lazy and ignorant Dr...

Our son was born with a high Apgar score (9) , but 36 hours after breastfeeding, he developed severe cerebral edema.   The brain insult caused unreverseable damage and a diagnosis of cerebral palsy.  We have no recourse against the idiot who prescribed and later admitted his mistake and negligence.  The causation is a difficult hurdle because there is no conclusive research and Novartis will not be publishing more research I can promise you.   The legal and medical community regard the evidence to be anecdotal.  The other big issue is that with a 250 K puni cap, this fruit is too high for the scumbags to want to pursue.
Other gastros have told me they would never prescribe the med for a pregnant woman and particularly not my wife.  My wife even had low albumin levels at the time, but the doctor had strong ties to Novartis and was likely collecting his own data for a potential paper of discussion topic.

you can tuse a family doctor for such a serious matter as cronic hbv, it is difficult to find good ones among liver specialists, family doctors are absolutely ignorant on this (i am the one who tells family doctor the most needed blood tests to do he doesn t even know and refer only to specialists)

plus it is so obvious you just have to read guidelines if your doctor is so lazy not to study or update

meant thanks to the long use of tenofovir on hiv

please also consider changing you doctors for a more expert one and ask him why did yiu have to take resistance risk with telbivudine if it is not on guideline, and why are you exposing public health thanks to him to this risk

also check this community and the risks for you and public health from resistance and killing behaviour of these doctors, many people vaccinated has been found already infected from these escape mutants due to the wrong use of antivirals like in your case

no it is not both on pregnancy or hbv, it is not a drug on guidelines for hbv monotherapy.resistance rates are very high

tenofovir is the only drug which has been used enough during pregnancy to be ok, thaks to the long use on hbv, it is aslo the only one together with entecavir to be on guidelines as monotherapy for hbv since resistance is zero until now

In general, yes. There were several studies done in rats that showed that this drug crosses placenta, but doesn't cause any harm to the embryo/fetus. In many ways rats are similar to us, humans-that is why scientists often use them as study subjects.

But you definitely should discuss this with the doctor that prescribed you the drug. Only the doctor knows your complete history and can make the right decision about risks/benefits of the drug to you.

Try re-posting in the pregnancy forum.  Hopefully you get more answers that way.
