A friend of mine has Chronic Hep B and he got results saying his viral load increased from 600 to 800. I know that's "low" and not to a treatment stage. But he's concerned as it's increasing. What could be the cause of the increase and is there any tips on what he should/shouldn't do? He never has alcohol (he wasn't a heavy drinker before diagnosis either), runs regularly and watches his diet. They've no clue how he contracted it or when, but he definitely is Chronic and not Acute. Any suggestions I'd much appreciate.
Thank you.
many think, even doctors, that hbvdna is linked to virions or infection but unfortunately hbv is from a family of viruses more complicated which integreates in to cells, so these flactuations on hbvdna have no meaning at all
a better tool to follow infection is to measure hbsag quantity which might (not in all cases) reflect nuber of infected cells and does reflect in all cases immune system response, when lower than 1500iu/ml there is a minimum immune control over the infection
so dont worry about hbvdna at all, it is useful to check it only during therapy to see response of drugs that are active on it.
your frined must focus on liver damage, checking it by fibroscan yearly , virus mutants to see if he is at higher risk of liver cancer.in case of high risk of cancer (precore/bcp hbv mutants), it is better to keep hbvdna to zero by drugs, in all the other cases if liver damage is null or mild, just monitor fibrosis by fibroscan
