my doc goes thru my results and partial info in a flash.I'm left to research what all I've seen on my tests. What are all the necessary questions and procedures should I ask? Its my health on the line, time is most crucial and precious.thanks

If you have acute HBV, you can afford to be "clueless" because, hopefully you can put all this behind you when you clear.

But if you are chronic, learn about the disease so you know how to take care of yourself better.  As you build up your knowledged on HepB, you can ask you doctor hard questions.  Challenge your doctors because not all are up to speed with HepB.  Think of this this way, your doctors have to know many things, you just have to know one thing, HepB.

When I see my GI, his PA can't answer my questions anymore.  And even my GI sometimes ask to get back to me because he wants to consult his researching partner.  Now my GI is far far smarter than me, but I don't want to be just another HepB patient.  I want him to evaluate my unique-ness.  When you buy clothes, which cost more?  A one size fit all or something that custom measured.  So don't be cheap on this one, it's your health.

I recognise that panic in your voice...coz I get it too. Listen to bberry and all the others on this forum. They have much knowledge on the topic. You are right it is the job of the doctor to run all the necessary tests and you know what HE WILL. As for the being clueless, why not start of with some basic info on the net there are many sites that gives lots of info about HBV. That's what I did before I found this place! Alternatively read through the posts on this forum and you will learn lots. I have just come from my doc today where he was very matter of fact about the whole HBV thing. He said that most people have no probs with the condition at all and told me that in the last 10 years treatments are keeping most folks completely healthy with HBV. In other words meds will keep you right if that's the route you are taking. I know it's fine to say don't panic (geez just read my post for yesterday when I was in total panic), but you really do need to give your body as little stress as possible. If you give a list of you lab results then I'm sure one of the HBV gurus on this site will be able to offer some info.

MThanks for feedback. How am I supposed to run the proper tests? Is that not the job of the "doctor" ? I am absolutely clueless and is why I have come to better understand my disease.I'm due to have my biop. On monday.  I'm sorry, your very kind in comforting me, I'm just a little insane as the target day approaches.  Yes I will write all down and present it to my doc and request a copy of labs and all so you all can break it down for me. Thank you again and happy easter to you

What's the most effective, low to no side affect for chronic hbv?

- follow the direction of your doctor. baraclude , so far, seems to have the lowest resistance to hbv. i think 1% in 5 years.

and what all tests should be performed

- hbsag, hbsab, hbeag, hbeab, hbcab, dna viral load count

I'm at the point of ultrasound and biopsy

- why both ? ultra sound in most case is good enough.. not too many people suggest a biopsy. still a full details of your current status tells a better story so i'd wait til i get full details of where i stand

If its needed and would it change the treatment if less or more damage is revealed?
- little confused and i kinda sense panic in your tone.. dont panic dont stress and you will be ok

Vload load is used to determine the time before it turns to chirrosis and cancer right so how's a million is it close or what???????

- million is sometimes nothing ..specially for hbeag postive.. some have it in the hundreds of millions and some even in the billions so relax a little.. the proper treatment - when needed - can bring this load to detectable in no time..

good luck and make sure you run the proper test before doing ultra sound and biopsy.. first things first . learn about your status first.
