An important thing to remember though, is unlike antibodies from vaccines, or from other viruses like measles, hepatitis C antibodies are NOT protective. People do not become immune to hep C. They can get the disease again.
No! You will test positive for Hepatitic C antibodies for the rest of your life.
Everyone infected with the Hepatitis C virus even if cured - test positive for Hep C.
No, the antibody cannot be removed.
We will always have the antibodies to Hepatitis C even after we have been cured. If we do not have any virus (as shown in the PCR test), then we no longer have Hepatitis C, but we will still have the antibody for the rest of our lives. The antibody shows only that we have been exposed to the virus at some point in our lives.
I know that the antibody being in the blood test is of concern in some countries (for employment purposes). If this is your situation, my suggestion would be to get a copy of the PCR test and show the employment company that you are negative/undetected for the disease of Hepatitis C. You may want to also have a letter from your doctor stating that you do not have Chronic Hepatitis C and that you only carry the antibodies (which are not infectious).
Another example is the antibodies a person gets from vaccinations. After we are vaccinated for a disease, we get antibodies in our bloodstream to that disease. However, even though we carry the antibodies, we do not have the disease for which we were vaccinated against.
Hope that helps.
