5 days on incivek

Well, After 5 days the triple therapy my doctor discontinued the incivek for me. I have the  worst case of hives ever.  I am completely covered. He is keeping me on the riboviron and the pegasys. Odds not as good but I cannot take these hives.

Hi Again Kathy: Bo's comment triggered another thought. If the hives do not quickly go away, consider discussing with your doctor teh drug Gabapentin as a possible solution. I want to emphasize I am not recommending a specific treatment -- just suggesting something to mention to your doctor. Gabapentin is a neurological drug used to treat skin disorders such as fibromyalgia. I was on the verge of stopping treatment around week 10 because of my skin related side effect (it wasn't hives), but my doctor was knowledgeable enough to correctly diagnose my condition and correctly prescribe a solution that enabled me to complete my prescribed therapy. Just something to think about. Cheer, GB

Just hang in there, Kathy. My viral load was undetectable at my 4 week labs, and that was just with the Interferon and Ribavirin, during my 4 week lead in, before I even started my third PI, whichis the other one, Victrelis.
You will know more, by 8 weeks. Make sure you eat a good diet, to help absorb your Ribavirin, and make sure you get gentle daily exercise.
Some people have gotten the rash, discontinued the Incivek, but had the rash continue.
The Ribavirin is also known to cause a rash.  maybe some other people who have had the rash can offer you some suggestions. I am on week 12, and just now a rash, myself, that looks like hives, and it's on my torso. I am sure the hot weather triggered it. Try to stay out of the sun, and stay cool, and take cool showers.

Hi Kathy: Sorry to hear about your experience, but there still may be a chance of success just based on the peg & riba & what the Incivek has done for 5 days.

I see your starting viral load was 5M. Mine was 22M and after 7 days it was 65. I'm not saying your decrease in 7 days would have been the as dramatic. I am saying Incivek has the potential of making a lot of initial progress.

SInce you have stopped therapy anyway, let's assume for a moment that you had a decent drop in the first 5 days -- maybe 2 logs. So, let's assume you are now at (and this is just a GUESS!) 50,000 VL. At this point, it seems to me that the peg and riba have a lot less virus they need to eradicate.

Is it possible for you to immediately get another viral load test? Since you are now on duel therapy, it would be nice to know the starting viral load for your current therapy. V/r, GB
