After affects of peg-intron, ribiviron..2 mos off now and having a horrible time..anyone help.

I've been off peg-intron/ribiviron coctail for over 7 mos, was taken off the drug, 2 days later was taken from my house by ambulance after a seizure/mental breakdown. Itched so bad I scratched my skin bloody all over, then took a knife and made over 20 lacerations on my left inner forearm., took 6 emt's to get me into the ambulance and that was after 2 shots of versed and 3 of valium. Well that was 2 mos ago and i've been off treatment now for nearly 2 mos now. But i'm still not right. I need to know if this is normal or did this drug do something to me thats irreversible. I keep an upper pain in my right side where your gal bladder is, which i had taken out. But I was down to a 0 load, undetectable in my system so why am i still hurting, I have just minimal scherosis and was supposed to be back to nearly normal. I have a tingling sensation on my upper body, my arms feel like their asleep all the time, I've still have hairloss and very thin but its slowly growing back. I'm having a problem with big dark spots on my face mostly on the forehead and bumps like small pimples all over my face, my skin is red and blotchy all over my arms and just has goosebump looking  bumps..What is the deal with my skin, im considering a chemical peel. I still feel anxious, just "not right" little bit of surreal feelings. paranoia, etc..anyone else getting these type after affects,

joey

I have had the exact treatment and similar symptoms, but I found a way to cope. Easy as taking a bath.First off, this is how I set my brain to find a solution to this problem. While I was taking the peg-intron and ribo pills, I wondered where the hep C virus that isn't killed in the bloodstream would go to survive. I concluded that they would migrate to the surface of the skin or just beneath it. So, in all my widom of 52 years I tried skin creams, antibiotics, countless visits to doctors and any experimental treatment I could muster up short of peeling my skin completely off.
Here is what I finally found that stopped my skin from ruling my life.
1. Fill a bathtub with warm to hot water.
2. Add ½ cup Chlorox or Lemon scented Chlorox bleach (it must be Chlorox, don't skimp)
3. Get in, rub it around on your skin a little bit and soak for 10 minutes. DO NOT use soap or shampoo.
4. Rinse the excess off with a warm shower and towel dry.
Do this every 12 hours and like magic, oh well , it was for me, we are all different.
If this sounds crazy you surely have not suffered enough yet with Hep C itch.
I have done away with soaps, detergents, shampoos, creams, ointments, diets, antibiotics, and by the way, after 2 years on interferon my levels never dropped, what a waste. I will try this for 6 months and get my levels checked again. If they have dropped, watch for Chlorox bleach to be $100 a gallon.
Good luck and more power to ya.

The reason I am up at 4:13 a.m., is because I am itching so bad. I have been off of interferons for almost 2 yrs., and yet I still have horrible side effects. So, from what I have read, this occurs in some people. The things that I have learned are as follows:
1. Do not take hot baths. This exagerates the itching.
2. I bought a Solarcane (or generic) burn relief spray, that has helped more than anything.
3. Try not to scratch for it worsens the condition.
4. I believe I have tried every cream out there, and I found that Gold Bond works the best, but the spray is better.
5. Continue to drink as much water as you can. You are still flushing this s---, out of your system.
6. Try a product like claritin, clarinex, and sometimes Benadryl helps people.
7. Are you taking an anti-depressant, if so, don't miss a dose. I am continuing on Effexor XR and Neurotin. If you are not taking anything like this, you probably should be. These are rescue drugs to me, and it does not hurt anything to continue on them. You need the support right now of a good anti-depressant.
8. Don't let the itching get you down. I know you have probably tried lots of things as desperation sets in~how well I know.
9. Do you have any family which is supplying any kind of emotional help? I am glad that you are writing here, because it takes more than just yourself, to acknowledge this and continue searching for a combination that will work for you.
10. Do not do anything to hurt yourself, if you feel like you have described, go to the ER.That is what they are their for.
11. I too, am getting small brown spots on my face, but my dermatologist is taking care of them.
12. The red spots sound like purpura, which I had throughout treatment. They usually start the itching.

For heavens sake, do not hurt yourself, it is not worth it. Find some combination of things that will get you through this and thank God that you haven't developed any other attachments to The Hep C, like I have. I also have cryoglobulemia and Neuropathy~believe me, it's no fun, and are a result of the interferons.

If you need to talk further, I am here and I check my mail daily. You will get through this~be strong and get mad if you need to~that will fire you up to find that something.

In the meantime take care~I will be thinking of you and saying a special prayer that God will see you through this. He will.

Interferon has been known to aggravate pre-exsting conditions. It says so right on that long skinny piece of paper that comes in every box.
