Any suggestions for the side effects of the incevik

I currently have 4 weeks left on the Incevik.  I am suffering from extreme "bottom end" issues and my hepatologist said that he does not have many patients who are experiencing this particular side effect.  Does anyone have any suggestions.  This is quite painful.

I was a member of the anal issue crowd too. My doc and case manager had no clue of what I could do. But, the forum did, and then I did some trial and error and found some more solutions.

For me, there were two issues.

One was extreme internal rectal pain, like crapping shards of glss or razor blades. Absolutely nothing a person puts on the outside even touches that pain. But I found that if I kept the stools very firm, not like rocks, but really quite firm, I did not have the pain when I passed stool. (The internal pain is probably from rectal fissures, caused by the irritating diarrhea and soft stools.)  To firm up my stools I took Loperimide at the very first sign of a soft stool. After I figured out the solution, I had no more problem with internal pain.

The other issue is the hemorrhoids, the external rectal and anal irritation, and the external burning. For this I used Huggies baby wipes with aloe after every single stool and I got every little hint of stool off of the butt. Any stool left on burned and itched. A person can also take a shower every time but that gets to be a few showers every day, lol. I also used lidocaine creame with hydrocortizone cream (prescription) and it numbs the outside. At times I used Prep. H cream but that was too irritating when the reactal/anal area was irritated. I did use Prep. H suppossitories at night. That helped (soothed). Later on I used Desitin cream. I had an entire counter of items that I used at various times depending on what the worst issue was.

Other suggestions are to drink a lot of water. Several quarts a day. My doc said to drink a gallon of water a day. Also, be sure you are getting enough fat. People say that it helps with the anal.rectal issues.

Some have used sitz baths or soaked in the tub. Other butt items are baneal solution, butt balm, A&D ointment, etc. Some use tucks but I tried them but my butt was way to raw for them, they burned. You have to try thethings out and see what works.

For me, though, the key was keeping the stools firm and the butt sparkling clean.

I surely hope this helps you.

Many people on Incivek have the anal issues. I am not sure why your doc does not see them.

Best of luck.

I am on the Hep-C treatment. I too have had my battle with extreme Anal probems. Early on, my Doctor's PA, who is unbelievable, prescribed to me Rectal Rockets! They are an *** saver. They are made by a compound pharmacy, (regular pharmacy's can not fill this Rx) and they work incredibly! I am in St Pete FL, and you can contact the the Compound Shop at 727.381.9799 ask for Mike the Head Pharmacist. I am sure he will share the recipe with your local Compund Pharmacy and your doctor. These along with Prep-H with Cortizone, along with Lidocaine, (which is prescribed by your doctor), work great. I went from level 10 pain to level 1-2. The rectal rockets are used at bedtime and are easy to use. Just remember to get the instructions.

Yes, glass shards, hemmoriods as big as busses (seemed like it), blood on tissues, other-end had bleeding gums, then in the middle nausea..   It helped a lot to put olive oil on everything i ate (except icecream).  Soft cooked vegetables swimming in OO really made a difference.  You will be back to previous condition when the incivek is over so don't get too scared.  I found baby wipes to be fantatic with baby butcream.  It is temporary.  Good luck.  No embarrassment allowed.  Just SVR.

Pooh, thank you for all of your suggestions as each one of them has worked miraculously.  I am comfortable in the "butt" area for the first time since I started the treatment 8 weeks ago.  The pain has been severe enough that I would almost be in tears every time I had to have a bowel movement.  Your reply is much appreciated.  I was going to stop the Incevik because of the intolerable pain but now I feel that I can keep going for the next 30 days.  Once again, thank you for "saving my butt" ---  Violetblonde

I hope something works for you.  The shards of glass was almost unbearable (cold sweat, felt like passing out) and I am not sure what I would have done had I not found that firm stools pass like normal stools and the softer ones feel like shards of glass. It is counter intuitive, but it seems to be the case.

Best of luck. Let us know what works.

I just want to thank you for all of your suggestions and beginning today I will try all of them.  I feel like the "bottom" pain is the worst side effect from taking the Incevik. The pain that you described is exactly like shards of glass or razor blades.  I just have to get through it!  Best of blessings to you, Violetblonde
