Thank you so much I am suppose to hear maybe tomorrow the 9thor 10th hopefully see if insurance is approved. Since i am on just the riv an peg injection hoping and praying it wont be to bad. Did your hubby eat big breakfast or just maybe toast an cereal or egg an toast I am not big breakfast person but will learn how to be . Did he have problems with hair falling out or was he m one of lucky ones? God bless
From my experience, once the insurance has approved the medications, then the specialty pharmacy contacts me to confirm the dosages and schedule the delivery. It included the Incivek, Ribavirin, and Interferon (although my husband is done with Incivek now). If I didn't hear from the specialty pharmacy, I called them, and they let me know where we were in the process, and scheduled the delivery date. The medications are then delivered by FedEx packed on ice. I do recommend calling early (1-2 weeks ahead of when you need them) to schedule subsequent deliveries just in case of a delay so that you don't run short.
My husband didn't need an injection lesson, since he had previously treated twice.
My husband times his shots for Friday afternoons, he works swing shift and gets home about midnight, so the full side effects of the shot affect him more at the end of his work shift and he has the weekend to recover.
We have Premera, and the copay for all 3 medications has been about $85 per month.
bbj2856, my husband has been able to work full time through triple therapy. He has missed 2 days of work due to side effects, and he is on week 15 now.

Do you all work while taking these meds I sure hope I can.
I like you all am waiting to get my meds approved . The Dr's office is working on it. I have the new Aetna drug an medicare plan but it has to be approved does anyone you know have this plan . It is looking like if I am approved it will be still exp around 1200.00 to 1500.00 a mo
I was a medical assistant for a few years at one point in professional career, so I am familiar with giving shots, not on myself really though...the doctor did say they would do a little lesson on the shots first...and my partner has done this before as well, so i think it will not be a big deal...I have to work the timing of the shots around driving my kids to see their dad (every other weekend (3-4 hrs up and back Friday night and then again on Sunday to get them) so getting my first shot at the doc's may not work so well, but we will see. Thanks all!
The Riba should come from the same specialty pharmacy in the same delivery. Others may differ, but I get a one month supply which is overnighted, with each delivery. As mentioned, your doctor's office should walk you through each step and I'd suggest to do the first shot at their office if this is new to you. Best of luck beginning trt.
Forgot to add that my Riba was sent together with my Peginterferon.
In my experience, a week after approval I received my meds from the specialty pharmacy fed x overnight but not before they called (spec pharm) and asked a slue of questions, and then they had me call again to order and they asked a couple more questions. Couldn't start the meds until I had a "teaching" from my NP. I started today actually, am doing 4week lead-in with Peg/Riba and then Victrelis. Good luck on your journey and congrats on going to get started.

Charlie
