Elevated AST without elevated ALT points away from the liver and supplements as the source. High AST is most often related to heart, muscle, or tissue damage. Overlifting can account for the rise in AST in some cases, as muscle cells can be destroyed in larger numbers releasing the enzyme AST into the blood.
Your doctor will most likely run further tests to isolate the source of the high level that was observed, and of course to see if your AST is even still elevated on a repeated exam.
I have a friend who is a professional weight lifter . Common supplements that I know he uses such as creatine (no high doses for compromised livers ! ), protein powder, whey powder, have not been shown to raise AST enzyme levels.
If you had been lifting really aggressively right before the test it may just account for this high AST reading. Let us know what the doc finds. Best of luck getting to the bottom of this quickly.
Mr Liver
Yes, supplements can send your enzyme levels off the chart. I would stop taking them and see if numbers go down. It's possible you could have hepc even though you tested negative several years ago, anything is possible. It's more likely the supplements have something to do with it and aggressive weight lifting or physical exersion can also raise enzyme levels. Alcohol raises enzymes levels. Make sure you discuss this with your doctor in length because 670 is high and you need to know the source of the problem.
Good Luck
