false positive HTLV

Hello, I am a pilot and travel all over the world. I received my last twinrix #3, tet, diphth. I gave blood in July. I received a letter from the blood bank that I had a false positive for HTLV. I do not engage in any of the types of conduct that would jepordize myself. Could these vaccines produced this report? If not what do you recommend that I do to get a better result.

Have you always received your innoculations from single-use, disposable syringes?  Were you breastfed?  A contaminated needle may be responsible for the HTLV lab result, or being breastfed by an HTLV-infected mother.

Apparently, 95% of infected people remain symptom-free.  It doesn't seem like you have much to be concerned qbout, but I'm no doctor---just a curious person who googled "HTLV"...

Be Well!

Hello sorry about your results. Here is  link regarding HTLV
that seems quite informative. I would speak to your doctor as soon as possible.

Best of luck to you.

Hi there, a false positive can also be caused by another problem such as thyroid problems, if you have hyper/hypothyroidism it can show in the blood tests that there is 'activity' in the blood, which can give a false result.
Maybe you need to get other tests done to rule this out.
I wish you well, I only know this information because my sons girlfriend had the hep c test, cos she was worried, but it turned out she has thyroid problems after 3 false hep c results.

HTLV is a retrovirus, I'd get retested to double check it before you worry too much and see what the doctor says.
