I had the pen shot and I did the shots on my inner thigh where it was fatty. After awhile it seemed like the fat was going away but not really. I had asked a smilier question a while back and someone said that they gave themselves a shot in the butt.

Best of luck to you!

I did 28 shots in my belly,  at least two inches to the right or the left of the belly button, and an inch lower or higher then~ I rotated right left, upper lower, in a box pattern around my navel.  I could sit down and do it that way, with good visibility

i agree with cherielynn.   i did abdomen for 48 weeks.  can you imagine trying to inject your butt subcutaneously.  that would make a great blooper video.
i would also like to congratulate you on your sucessful tx to date.  if i did the math right, you were und at week 4 v/l.  that is impressive that you responded so well to the lead in phase.
                          best to you      barry

My GI Doc told me & I do injections into my abdomen, I will not change the place of injections because it's working. Every Friday night I find a place around my belly button (fat) where there isn't a bruise from the previous week & inject the Peginterferon there. I would ask your doc or nurse, the butt has enough fat so I think that it'd be a great place for your injection site, but I'd still recommend asking your HCV tx ppl before you try it. Best of luck to you and your tx!!! My viral load has remained UND for the last 20 weeks and I have four weeks left to go out of a 28 week tx. BTW, I'm on Peginterferon alfa 2b, Ribavirin & Victrelis, just in case you were wondering & I'm so happy that it's working. My Dr told me that I have a better than 90 percent chance of being cured! I'm genotype one also. The most common form of HCV & supposedly the hardest to treat, so I feel pretty confident and lucky that I'll be cured. Good luck, again!!! :)

Pooh has given you great advice,
I would only add that when I treated I could not do it in my thigh, not enough fat to grab but plenty in my stomach
Good luck

Welcome to the forum.

You did not state which type of interferon you are using but if it is Pegasys then, NO, you should not administer your interferon injection in your butt.  You should administer it subcutaneously, NOT intramuscular.

This is NOT an intramuscular injection.

You should administer your injection in your thigh or your stomach.

Copy and paste this site into your browser. The site has precise instructions on how and where to give your injection, including pictures.

http://www.pegasys.com/patient/for-patients/expect/how/vial-injections/

"Step 8."

"Decide where to give yourself the injection.

Pick a place on your stomach or thigh. Avoid the navel and waistline
Pick a different spot each time you give yourself an injection

Pick a place on your stomach or thigh

Step 9.

Prepare skin for injection.

To minimize discomfort, gently tap the area where you plan to give yourself the injection
Clean the area with an alcohol pad
Let the skin dry for 10 seconds

Position needle point

Step 10.

Perform the self-injection.

Position the point of the needle (the bevel) so it's facing up
Pinch a fold of skin on your stomach or thigh firmly with your thumb and forefinger Pinch a fold of skin
Hold the syringe like a pencil at a 45° to 90° angle over your skin and, in a quick motion, insert the needle as far as it will go into the pinched area of skin
Remove the hand used to pinch your skin and pull the plunger of the syringe back very slightly
If blood comes into the syringe, the needle has entered a blood vessel. DO NOT INJECT. Withdraw needle and discard the syringe (as outlined in Step 11). Prepare a new site and repeat previous steps with a new vial and syringe
If no blood appears, slowly push the plunger all the way down, injecting all of your medicine"
