My teenage daughter has HepC too...I feel awful!!!

My 16 year old daughter has recently been diagnosed with type 1 HepC, like me. The doc says she most likely got it in birth from her mum (my ex-wife). Her mum does not want to get tested (she was once an IV drug user and has a dodgy tatoo) and tells me I'm making a fuss about nothing and wishes I hadn't had our daughter tested or subsequently told her the result.
I feel terrible she's got it!!!!! Bad enough that I have it! My wife and two other daughters (age 9 and 6) from my second marriage all tested negative.
My question is: what is the likely prognosis for a 16 year old girl? Will she need a biopsy and meds? I guess so! Can't bear the thought of putting her through all that ****! Her life's just beginning! On the whole she isn't worrying too much about it and seems quite happy. She's also getting counselling.I feel like I've already messed up her life a bit by getting her tested and telling her to be very careful with alcohol intake. The thought of a biopsy and year long treatment and possible permanent damage from the meds or treatment failure and the possibly inevitable progression to liver failure. WHAT A DRAG!!!!

As a parent myself I can only begin to understand how you must feel. But unless she is already very sick I would wait until these new drugs are approved. Like what was said above I think it will be ok. Theres alot of good stuff gona be coming out. Plus its better that she knows now rather then 30 years from now when her liver is toast and she has a family of her own. Just stay on top of it.

I think with all the new meds out & up & coming she has a real good chance to come out ok  At lease it was found early-that's a good thing.  Be thankful-my boyfriend was diagnosed 6yrs ago.  They said he probably had it for 15-25yrs-no telling.  He was just admitted yest with possible liver failure-waitimg on tests-maybe too late even for a transplant.  Good Luck and stay positive!!  Breni
