you are kidding me?! the first result from the word 'failure' is GW Bush?
OMG that is hilarious! have they become synonims?
No surprise there!!
Where did snook find that 'enlightening' article? sounds like something from dr quack's now come buy my pills, site. I have seen the same list of ailments in the placebo article! what a bunch of crock! not a single footnote to direct people to the 'studies' where they got their "facts"!
no match for what we posted, actual articles of actual studies!
that was a riot, snook! tell us where you got it, pretty please?
One of the things I miss about living in Miami is the Cuban Coffee or caf
I have a few extra vices if you want to take them...
I'm not giving up any more of my vices.
Just wanted to point out some down sides to coffee as well as well as the good, for a balanced, overall view....then people can judge for themselves what they want to do...if someone wants to drink 4 pots a day, it's their deal....But that doesn't make me a Republican....who cares how I voted? cept me...
and crimany, everything is up for debate around here...

How bout you, has the tx been rough lately??
Does caffeine not cause an increase in dehydration? I have also been told that caffeine increased the chances of muscle cramps. That may be due to the dehydration though. Before treatment I was probably a 6 cup a day guy. The doctors office told me to get off of caffeine so when I started treatment it was like a double dose of misery adjusting to meds and no caffeine. I can't wait to have a good cup of coffee. Starbuck doesn't make coffee that suits my taste buds. I'm more of a McDonald's, burn your crotch, drive through sorta guy. Dale
Double-express latte??? What is that?
I have 2 cups each morning, and sometimes a third around 8AM. I strictly go for the Maxwell House or Folger's. Currently it is Folger's b/c it is cheaper. Probably saved me from serious liver damage too.
You can take your coffee in the enema form too, if you are inclined to such things. Two things. . . .(1)you want to let it cool first and (2) No, I'm not pouring.

I'm more of a McDonald's, burn your crotch, drive through sorta guy.
Nothing wrong with a little shameless self-promotion there fellow..... but we were talking about coffee not your bedroom stamina.....
I heard that drinking coffee HOT contributed to the iver positive benefits of the coffee. I have it around here somewhere..they do mention hot coffee is beneficial.
Light coffee drinking may pose heart attack risk

Hey Jim better make it a decaf next time LOL !
If it's only been 4 days since your first shot chances are very high you havent had a significant (or otherwise) rise in your hgb yet. But you WILL feel better...just hang in there!
I love my coffee (and tea) and have not given up either on tx. Since none of us in here are really going to ever be considered "dehydrated" (face it we live in the good old USA and have plenty of access to water when we are thirsty) - I haven't worried about it and both doctors told me that it's practically impossible for any of us to become ill (dehydated) if we stick to a normal liquid intake and I dind't need to up it that vastly BECAUSE coffee, tea, juice, milk etc all had liquid it in and if I added it up it would be PLENTY.
The answer to your question is yes. Just like the meds for HCV, coffee too is a diuretic, so if you are drinking it, you might want to make sure you increase your water intake above the standard body wieght divided by 2 in ounces formula.
Has anybody ever run a google on coffee?
Just out of curiosity, run a google search with this in the header, "dangers of coffee"
You'll be amazed at the results.
Don't go reaching for that cup too quick!
From: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/541568
"Drinking 1-3 cups of coffee per day was associated with a 40% decrease in the risk for alcoholic cirrhosis vs drinking less than 1 cup (P < .001). This protective effect was dose-dependent: less than 1 cup per day, 0.7 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.4-1.1); 1-3 cups, 0.6 (95% CI, 0.4-0.8; P < .001); and 4 or more cups per day, 0.2 (95% CI, 0.1-0.4; P < .001). This means that patients who drank 4 or more cups of coffee had an 80% decrease in the relative risk for alcoholic cirrhosis. Among subgroups of patients with nonalcoholic cirrhosis, coffee had a similar, weak, albeit not statistically significant inverse relation to risk for either viral hepatitis-associated cirrhosis or to miscellaneous, other cirrhosis. Tea drinking, on the other hand, was unrelated to the risk for either alcoholic or nonalcoholic cirrhosis.
"A number of limitations need to be considered in the interpretation of these study findings, including the fact that smoking, drinking, and coffee consumption are often related habits, which makes it difficult to rule out residual confounding by alcohol amount or drinking pattern. The study authors proposed that smoking may prolong the persistence of caffeine in the body. Thus, any residual confounding effect that is related to coffee drinking would tend to produce an inverse smoking-cirrhosis relation, not the positive one evident in this study. This study was also limited by its reliance on baseline ascertainment of habits and incomplete follow-up of the cohort. Finally, the observational nature of these data and the absence of an established mechanism limit a causal interpretation."
It appears that you have to smoke and drink alcohol to get the most bang for the cup, perhaps. Mike
Gee thanks Mike. Let's add politics, religion, and sexual preferences to the mix and we should really see this thread take off. ;-P
Yea indeed, I agree with you on that one. I could think of a few more factors that might stimulate discussion too but I'll let that go. Mike
My warmest congrats. You're not the only one relieved by this news!!
You feeing any better? Is that Procrit kicking in? I notice you have been making a lot of funny comments, I hope that is a sign you are feeling better!
Having a bad day? Come here, tell ole snook all about it!!
Leave the political ranting at home..
As far as coffee, are you serious? Just run the google as I stated and read? The reason coffee is beneficial for the liver, or thought to be, is that it makes the urge for bowel movements. This is actually caused by the toxic reaction the coffee has with stomach acid, which in turn triggers the LIVER to create bile, in an attempt to flush the toxins out.So yes, in theory it does help bile production..
But you know what? How bout drinking a glass of water and using natures purist remedy as the flush? No need to bombard the body with over 600 toxins, pesticides, and contaminants found in imported coffee. Remember, coffee is a big import, and most of which comes from countries that use chemicals as pesticides that are not allowed in the US. And not to mention the health concerns of the main ingredient, caffeine.. Run the google, it's a good read.
I drink coffee myself, but probably twice a week if that.If you live in Miami, Cuban coffee is a MUST!!
Hey red wine is also beneficial for health? You advising everyone to go out and drink just because an article says to?
Come on, don't be a hypocrit!!
Here is just a little blurb of one article:
Caffeine depletes the body of calcium, so old people end up with
brittle bones and hip fractures. High intake of caffeine produces
symptoms such as anxiety neurosis, nervousness, irritability,
tremulousness, occasional muscle twitchings, insomnia, sensory
disturbances, tachypnea, heart palpitations, flushing, cardiac
arrhythmias, and gastointestinal disturbances, panic attacks,
chronic nervousness and irritability; digestive difficulties,
including heartburn, indigestion, and ulcers; fibrocystic breast
lumps; migraine headaches; and low blood sugar. It can lead to
increased risk of pancreatic and bladder cancers, and, as a heart
stimulant, is linked to blood-pressure abnormalities and
myocardial infarction, sleeplessness, irritability, anxiety,
increased urination, stomach irritation, fibrocystic disease
(benign growths) in the breast, and harm to a developing fetus.
In addition, caffeine is commonly added to various junk foods and
colas, so even little children are subjected to this drug at an
early age. And yet, the Medical Monopoly pretends with
hypocritical seriousness that they do not know the cause of such
things as panic attacks and unruly children. The physicians claim
that such children have some (fake) disease that they call
"Attention Deficit Disorder" which calls for drugs from the Pharmacological Monopoly. Even though they know from their
own research that caffeine has a direct irritant effect on nerves
and burns up our precious supply of thiamine, or vitamin B1, the
nutrient so necessary for tranquility; even though they know
this, they sell you anti-depressants and other drugs, instead.
All of this is just from the caffeine alone without counting the
effects in kidney, liver, digestive tract damage and cancer
promotion caused by the over 600 toxins found in a cup of coffee.
