Got Tested Today for Incident Involving Kissing w/ Possible Blood

Hi, so back near the end of April, I was kissing my ex-girlfriend (who has done heroin before and who could be at risk for HCV), when she pulled away suddenly and said she was bleeding. I neither saw nor tasted any blood, and she proceeded to clean it up. I had no open wounds in my mouth, though my lips were probably slightly chapped.

I'm a bit nervous for this reason. Was there a risk here? We didn't have sex or engage in any other behaviors that could have put me at risk for HCV, provided she had it. Thanks so much.

There wasn't any risk.  You didn't have blood to blood contact unless you think because you had chapped lips and some blood found it's way into infecting you.  That would be highly unlikely.  That's not blood to blood contact, you're fine.  BTW, just because your ex gf did some heroin did some heroin does not mean she has HepC.

I’ve had a few exes tell me I could kiss them but never had the desire to place my lips on that part of the body.

Hahaha I could see how you would. We ended amicably and still hang out from time to time, so it's fine.

Okay, that makes sense. My lips weren't that bad as I recall. They're always somewhat chapped, but nothing serious. I have to wait until tomorrow, but I'm far more confident that it won't be any problem.

Thanks so much.

I'm really not sure, I didn't see any blood, like I said, so maybe she just thought she was. I don't know.

Would the blood have a good chance of getting through my chapped lips? I didn't have any other cuts in my mouth, no canker sores that I could see. I'm honestly worried here.

Hepc has to be blood to blood in order for infection to occur. You can't eat it and get infected so certainly you cant swallow it and get infected.  But best to get tested and get over the fear.

How'd she start bleeding from kissing? That's my question I never heard of that one before!

Thank you for putting my mind at ease a bit. I just need to know for sure I don't have it.

Well it looks to me like you felt there was a risk so you were tested, good for you, wise choice not because I feel you were at risk (personally I think it is very very very minimal risk) but for your own peice of mind, good luck with your results
