GP follow up to ER visit. PLEASE HELP

My GP of course called to see how I was doing.  When I told her all my blood work, she asked that I come by and just have another cbc done today.  (They are an urgent care on the weekends).  My HGB had gone up from 8.6 to 9.4 in 2 days.  My platelets had gone up from 53 to 68 in 2 days.  But my anc had gone down from .9 to .4 in 2 days.  Also, my lymphocytes and monocytes were higher than they had ever been, leading her to think this mono thing is still kicking my butt, but she just wanted to recheck.  WBC had stayed steady at 2.0.

I just got back.  My hgb is now 7.9.  platelets 50.  wbc 1.8  and 1.0  What gives?  She says her results COULD be delusional because of the 2 bags of fluid i recieved at 11 pm last night.  Is that so?  Can that happen?  But she said it was truly up to me.  If I am feeling really bad and feel a transfusion is the way to go, that is what I should do.  I DON"T KNOW WHAT TO DO>  I am afraid to transfuse because of my wbc................HELP

The problem with many hemotologists are that they sometimes aren't used to the extreme variations seen with HCV patients and feel they must act when in fact an experienced liver specialist may not. I don't see any problem with your ANC but do see big potential troublle with your hemoglobin. ANC bounces around a lot but hgb tends to keep going down. If you're not on Procrit (epo) you should be on it immediately. As to transfusion versus riba dose reduction -- sounds like that decision may hit you any day now. Usual disclaimer that the closest I got to a medical degree was dating a couple of doctors :)

Jean,

Wait and see what the hemotologist says.  It doesn't appear your GP thinks it's absolutely necessary right now.   I believe  the hemo will safely guide you back to health one way or the other.  May have dose reduce or start neup for the WBC.  Your blood work is all over the place and yes that happens.  Platelets, HGB and ANC go up and down regularly.  However, you seem to be experiencing some extreme drops but I think a good hemo will get you back on track.  Stay with it -
