my liver enzymes are elevated all the time i went for a ultrasound and they found i had cirrosis and i have never drank so they beleive it came from the augmentin
A few years ago, I went to Dr. re swelling at front base of neck. He prescribed 600 mg Augmentin every day, thinking it was sinus infection. By end of week my urine & face were deep orange, I couldn't bear weight enough to walk. I was dying. Drs. saved my life. I haven't had any liver problems since, but am always concerned about it.
Only a doctor can tell what causes fatty liver, etc. I haven't heard or seen anything about side effects that may occur years later. Regarding your statement: "liver function stays very high." What does that mean?

a friend of mine, who is an expert on these things (I myself am not) said that this is one of the more liver toxic of the antibiotics, I know this is a weak post, cause you don't even know my friend lol...I'd just ask your doctor(s) and pharmacists, pharmacists can be very helpful with drug info as well, I've found...
I've heard of Augmentin linked to jaundice before but it must be pretty rare. I've used it many times, including when I was taking interferon, and never had any problems.
Don't know about augmentin, specifically, but I have heard of both drug-induced hepatitis as well as alcohol induced hepatitis.
Here's a link that discusses it. (I know it's VERY long - you can just google drug induced hepatitis and you'll get quite a few hits).
