Actually, upon going and reading the article which the link is pointing too, I see that there is a mistake being made in the statements being made in this thread. The articel in question clearly identifies HCV as being Blood Bourne, but differentiates it from HBV (NOT HCV) which can be contracted as STD.
Here is second to last paragraph where these references in question are found:
"Hepatitis C is a chronic disease contracted through contact with blood of an infected person. Hepatitis B can be contracted through sexual intercourse or contact with blood."
No where else in the article is there any other reference to means of infection.
As the second paragraph indicates, patients could have been exposed to HCV, HBV, and HIV, which is why I think the reference to means of infection are being made towards it's end.
Well, write the journalist who wrote the article and request him to provide evidence to support STD claims. One might also direct him to evidence to the contrary.
The person will not be educated unless one identifies the fallacy of their statements and the next article will publish the same thing. Who knows, perhaps with enough contact, they might be compelled to write a follow-up article to set the facts straight
I just read this article and I thought it sounded correct."Hepatitis C is a chronic disease contracted through contact with blood of an infected person. Hepatitis B can be contracted through sexual intercourse or contact with blood." It's really awful that this stuff goes on..especially on top of the fact that those on dialysis have alot to deal with already. I didn't get the impression that the reporter was saying that Hep C was spread sexually.
That is plain ignorance of the journalist who wrote the article.
What the press can allow itself is right out outrageous.

I just read that article myself and was going to post it. It is sad that this can happen in this day and age at a dialysis center. It is also a shame that they portray it as a "sexually contracted disease". The chances of contracting it sexually are very low. It just further helps to create misconceptions about this disease for the public.
