Hair loss

Has anyone had hair loss post tx, like 1 yr. later. I am having alot of hair loss in the past 3 weeks. I am also wondering if it is o.k. to take hair vitamins. Not currently on tx. I take fish oil, garlic, vit D and calcium. I think since I am not on tx. that this is O.K. Am I wrong?

Agatha, has your thyroid function been checked recently? I really can't comment on hair vitamins; but of course, a quick glance at my profile picture will give you a clue I'm not much of a hair guru either :o).

Female pattern baldness is more likely to have an underlying health cause than male pattern baldness.

A thyroid problem a real possibility.

"Baldness occurs when hair falls out and normal new hair does not grow in its place. The reason why new hair does not grow in female pattern baldness is not well understood, but it may be related to:

•Aging

•Changes in the levels of androgens (male hormones). For example, after reaching menopause, many women find that the hair on their head is thinner, while the hair on their face is coarser.

•Family history of male or female pattern baldness

Hair loss can occur in women for reasons other than female pattern baldness, including the following:

•Hormonal abnormalities, such as too much testosterone, or too much or too little thyroid hormone

•Iron deficiency

•Medications such as chemotherapy and beta blockers

•Vitamin deficiency (such as biotin)

Thanks for the response Bill. You are funny as hell. I do take Synthroid for hypothyroidism and thought about getting my levels checked. It has been almost 9 months since I did.  They have always been normal but maybe it is time for an increase in the Synthroid.  And by the way you look great in your profile.
