And on to SVR, no virus, hands that open and close, and healthy kidneys for us all!!
pat
So glad to see that both of you are doing better and got some relief. Maybe it is all that water. I have had a pint already today and will be having another one this afternoon. Actually, you guys reminded me that I couldn't make a fist either and now I can since I cleared so perhaps I am better than I originally thought.
Thank you so much for the insight, Pat!
I play guitar and a some years back, I noticed that my fingers would not do what they used to do. I attributed it to repetitive stress from working at a computer all day.
Like you, I found myself not being able to close my hand to make a fist. In fact, I couldn't even see the tendons on the back of my hands and I'm a thinner guy. Well, I can see the tendons now and I can make a fist. Something is changing.
Feel lucky to be on Harvoni and, God willing, put the past 35 years of HCV behind me.
Best to you both!
Marc
Thank you, Patra. I am going to take your advice. My kidneys will thank me even if my pain isn't alleviated.

Marc: I do NOT believe it is psychosomatic!!
I, too, had stiffness and pain in my hands - first, back in the 90s AND it cleared up and the swelling/knots wend away while I was on INF. It didn't stay gone over the years, but I figured that was just diet, etc., and it may have been, OR because I was no longer on the meds, as I was a null responder.
BUT, I, could not even close either hand - the fingers would not ben enought to touch my palms, never mind make a fist, AND I CAN NOW!! (not yelling - using caps for emphasis),
Again, I don't know if it was the meds (Sol/Riba this time) or the liver friendly diet I began with tx or what but my hands have improve amazingly! Also, this time, I am SVR12 and, am feeling so well, believe that I will reach SVR24 and claim my victory! Either way, I am grateful and keeping on keeping on with the diet, exercise, etc.
SSG: (Sarge? hee hee) The Water IS SO IMPORTANT!!! (see note above). PLEASE drink water. You should be drinkimg 1 oz per Lb up to 1/2 your body weight, each day. (If you weight 120 Lbs, you shoud be drinking 60oz water a day, etc). We cannot stress enough how important that is!
If you are having trouble with water, I suggest you get purified bottled water and try drinking it at room temperature. I keep the 20 oz bottles for when I am out of the house - to make sure I can always get my water, I just take it with me - and also get the gallon jugs to drink at home, use in the coffee pot.
FIRST, I believe you will find that your cramping is better, just from the addition of enough water each day. Second you might try an electrolyte drink - at few ounces a day, to see if that helps, also. I have to do that when I drink too much water and wash out too much sodium, potassium, etc.
Both of you, good luck and Blessings,
Pat
Marc, thank you so much for your timely comments. I know that I do NOT drink enough. Some days all I have is a cup of coffee at breakfast and never touch a drop of liquid for the rest of the day. I do know that is terrible. I am going to try and force myself to drink water at least a few times to start and see if I get any relief. Those cramps are so painful, especially when they hit my thighs.
I'm a month into a 12 week Harvoni plan, but I've had joint pain and stiffness for years with some cramping in my feet. My joint pain has been limited to my feet, ankles, and hands.
Currently have gout in both feet so I can't tell if anything's changed yet, but surprisingly, my hand stiffness seems to be lessening. Maybe it's psychosomatic, lol.
In terms of the cramping, mine would strike when I was mildly dehydrated. If you're not getting enough fluids, you may look into that first.
Congrats on clearing your HCV and best wishes to you!
Marc
