Hi there.  I agree with everyone.  If you're not already, try sleeping with your head elevated.  I have Acid Reflux and had some of it in the beginning of tx.  Drinking something Cold and fizzy helps, but taking Prevacid, Zantac, Tagament, etc. (if they are okay on tx) should help too.  If you don't feel relief soon, be sure to go to a GI doc, as you don't want to damage your esophagus.

(for Nexium; not sure if this is okay during tx)

I also got heart burn beginning of tx. Have never had it before so I wasn't sure what to think!  Oh, the places our minds can take us. I don't lay down after I take pills, drink peppermint tea and make sure I have a bit more food in Tummy. Just from what I have learned today from flcyclist be sure to check it out with doctor before you take any OC.

Thanks for posting that inf. I have been getting a terrible bloated stomach and I called, emailed my clinic but no one got back to me. I have been taking gasx which is Simethicone. Darn, wish they would have told me.

I don't take the calcium carbonate tabs anywhere near med time. I tough it out if I have to. Usually I take them in the middle of the night when the heartburn gets really bad, like 3 am.

Good point, though.

Thats odd your doctor would ok tums, while they are ok to take they should be taken at least 2 hours before the riba.

Careful with taking antacids containing magnesium, aluminum, and simethicone (Mylanta) with Ribavirin - resulted in a 14% decrease in mean ribavirin absorption.  Some link to other threads if interested:

I have heartburn pretty bad too. Plus burping.

I don't think I would use pepto without checking with your doctor and pharmacy.

My doctor and specialty pharmacist said for me to use something like Tums or the equivalent because it is calcium carbonate which will not interfere with the drugs or drug absorption. I use generic calcium carbonate tablets. They look like Tums, but are cheaper. They work.

Heartburn is common while on tx. OTC drugs like Prilosec and prevacid are ok to take.......... Plus it doesn't matter when you take them, not the same with anti-acid pills........... Good luck
