Hep C Top News Stories including Good News re Epo (Procrit)...

From HIVandHepatiis.com, a good site to bookmark:
http://www.hivandhepatitis.com/hep_c.html

With all the "Black Box" warnings on Procrit, this study is welcome news:
http://www.hivandhepatitis.com/hep_c/news/2008/072908_b.html

"Given the inherent differences in patient populations, practitioners should exercise caution when extrapolating the results of studies of other diseases to HCV infection," they added. "Our efficacy and safety analysis suggests against the withholding of ESAs in the management of anemia induced by HCV treatment."

Another article on the importance of riba's role in SVR:

Adequate Ribavirin Exposure
http://www.hivandhepatitis.com/hep_c/news/2008/070708_b.html

If these findings are confirmed, early ribavirin concentration may be added to the several other factors (including HCV genotype, pre-treatment viral load, and rapid virological response) that can be used to predict - and ideally improve -- the chances of sustained response to hepatitis C treatment.

Will do, jmjm. My first test is next Thursday and my prediction (based on past history) is that my HGB will be in the 11s. It has to be
at least 13.5 by October 12th or I won't do the Marathon. Thanks again.

I'm doing just fine and congratulations on finishing up your "marathon" (forgive the pun) treatment :) How about a hiatus on real marathons until your hemoglobin at least returns to pre-treatment levels!

How R U JMJM? All finished w tx and would like to tell u and the rest of the group I really appreciated everyone's advice. I did the San Fran Marathon last August (on tx for 3 weeks) and  it was way to difficult to do and decided then not to do anymore until I finished. I have been clear for almost 7 months!   Anyway, the reason I posted here was to give you a testimonial on Procrit. My HGB went into  the 8s and the Dr put me on Procrit (40K). Within 2 weeks it had climbed up to 9 where it remained for the remainder of tx. I have 1 more to take next week and then labs to decide whether I continue. It kept me functional. Thanks again.
