Hep c education for families

Hi everyone,, this is not a medical issue I'm dealing with today but I'm hoping someone can help with.  Found out today that my adopted daughter has forbid my grand babies from having contact with me until I'm cured.  Tried to explain there was no danger of them being exposed.  I have always been careful about razors, ect. I even remove razors out of shower when my granddaughter ( she's a teenager ) stays the weekend.  I've been looking for a site that would explain in laymen terms the routes of exposure etc.  I'm afraid if this treatment isn't successful, my relationship with my grand babies will suffer as I am without them. She wants proof at the end of treatment.  Any suggestions?? My heart is broken.  She has known I was hep positive but I guess with me starting treatment with these powerful drugs, it has scared her

Maybe this could help? From the CDC Hepatitis C FAQs for the Public

http://www.cdc.gov/hepatitis/c/cfaq.htm#cFAQ81

"Can Hepatitis C be spread within a household?"

"Yes, but this does not occur very often. If Hepatitis C virus is spread within a household, it is most likely a result of direct, through-the-skin exposure to the blood of an infected household member."

"What are ways Hepatitis C is not spread?"

"Hepatitis C virus is not spread by sharing eating utensils, breastfeeding, hugging, kissing, holding hands, coughing, or sneezing. It is also not spread through food or water."

Also from the American Liver Foundation HEP C 123
http://hepc.liverfoundation.org/diagnosis/how-hep-c-is-spread/

How is Hepatitis C Transmitted or Spread?

Hepatitis C is transmitted or spread when the blood from a Hepatitis C-infected person enters the bloodstream of someone who is not infected. Today, people who share needles or other equipment to inject drugs, can become infected. Before 1992, screening all donated blood and organs for Hepatitis C was not standard in the United States, so the disease was commonly spread or transmitted through blood transfusions and organ transplants.

What are Ways Hepatitis C is Not Spread or Is Hepatitis C Contagious?

Hepatitis C is spread only through exposure to an infected person’s blood. It is not contagious like the common cold. You cannot get, or give, Hepatitis C by:

Kissing
Hugging
Holding hands
Casual contact
Sneezing
Coughing
Sharing eating utensils
Sharing food or drink
Breastfeeding (unless nipples are cracked and bleeding)

Hope this helps

Good Luck
Lynn
