Hair loss at 8 weeks

I have read where most people start loosing their hair at about week 16 of tx. Did anybody start loosing it as early as week 8? I wonder if starting to loosed it earlier means I loose more of it. Any experiences ya'll?

Do all patients of SOS loose their hair?  Have there been anyone at this form who did not loose any?  I am taking shot 16/48 tomorrow and I have not as yet noticed abnormal hair loss. Do you think I will miss that sx or will it come later?

i lost a ton of hair but I had a ton to lose.  Like NYgirl what was left was dry and fried.  I didn't know about the thick eyelashes, esp. in the men.  Bill's funny comment was the first I had heard of that.  I did have the llama lashes - i remember they were so long they were hitting the inside of my sunglasses.  Now, post tx my hair is growing like crazy and my lashes are disappointingly short.

You know what I think I will do just that.  Thanks for the advice.  It does seem waaaay to long for just tx.

Boy! I hope I don't do like you! Everybody else seemed to stop loosing it pretty soon after ending tx. Maybe you should have your hormone levels checked. With all of the immune issues that Interferon causes, you may be dealing with some auto-immune issue instead of just fall out from tx.

I did 24 weeks and my hair got very thin.  I finished treatment Feb. 18 and it still comes out in handfuls everytime I brush but particularly after washing.  I am just wondering when that will stop.  I also had the llama lashes.

My hair started thinning since week 4, but I had a lot of it, and very thick, so I really don't worry much about loosing my hair. It sheds gradually, evenly, and I don't have any bold spots. One rather strange thing is happening though - I used to be a light blonde in childhood, then my hair turned darker. Well, it's turning very light blonde now again (thanks God, not grey :) ). I do think it's due to tx. But I love the color :)

I had, very thick hair, and have been thinning since before week 8.  I only wash my hair once a week, it's heartbreaking to see all that hair come out.  Of all the side effects the thinning of hair is my least problem.  In the beginning I thought it was so much of a concern, until all the other side effects started.  Feeling so tired is a burden I must bear.

Im 44 weeks into 48weeks SOC. I used to have very thick, very long red hair. I think Ive lots 80-90% of it... which is very noticible to anyone who knows me. Im wearing hats and beanies at the moment. I have lots of regrowth coming in over the last couple of months and yes it is sticking out!!! Very odd...but it gives my friends and family a bit of a giggle. I look a bit like Einstein at the moment and am planning to finish my PhD as soon as Im done so Im hoping i have picked up a few of his smarts as well:-)

When I went through my first 48 wks of SOC, I lost some hair, but wasn't bad. My second round of tx was 48 wks of BOC. I did start losing my hair at about the 8 wk point. For me it continued to fall out alittle more each week. It got very thin by the time I hit 48wks, (I was wearing hats or wigs) I am now at 12wks post tx, and finally the hair has stopped falling out, YEAH! I am finally noticing new hair growth. The hair on my legs and under arms is even growing again, unfortunately.

My hair most definitely did not start to grow back until after treatment was over.  Totally.  I lost about 75/80% and what I had left was cracked and thin and yuck.   I got some awesome wigs of different styles and colors and had fun with them because quite honestly there wasn't anything else to do except wear a scarf around my head and since I work in the beauty/hair biz it wouldn't have gone over so great.
It does grow back but just didn't until I quit the interferon.

And yes eyelashes and eyebrows grow like WILD - unfortunately those gorgeous llama lashes are the first thing to go when treatment is over.  So some hair falls out and other hair grows like crazy - go figure!

I noticed my eyebrows doing strange things too. I thought it was that my eyesight for close things has gotten much worse so I wasn't seeing how to pluck them right. I had to trim them with scissors to get them to kind of go the right way.

My hair had one major "fall out"  while I was taking a bath.  A whole big glob.  But it also fell out continuously and did not really grow back for a year.  Mainly noticable to me only.  I can't remember when it started falling out tho.

I think it was about week 20 that I really noticed my hair thinning and it continued for the remainder of tx (72 weeks). I did buy a couple of wigs for work because it looked so drab and I was getting bald spots the more time I spent in bed after work. Plus it was darn cold during the wintertime here in MN. I was glad to stop wearing them though this summer after tx ended and my hair started filling in.

Like Bill, my eyebrows had a life of their own but they were colorless so not many peolple noticed except me. Now that my body hair is starting to return, it also grows in at odd angles. I've now got about 10 hairs on each shin and they stick straight out too.
Never a dull moment!

Have you ever seen Andy Rooney on the news show 60 Minutes? While I was on treatment, he was jealous of my eyebrows…

I've lost a lot of hair.  It's not so bad that I've broken down and bought a wig yet though :)

Hey Trinity, did your eyebrows stick out too?  My brows now look like an old Scottish man's and the lashes on one of my eyes (only one mind you) are growing so curly that I scan barely put mascara on them  LOL.

Weirdness :)

At least in my case I did see new growth while on tx, especially around the hair line because it would stick stright up.  Nice hey?

That's great to know. Some how I was under the impression that it wouldn't start growing back until tx was stopped, so the longer it fell out, the balder I would be at the end. If you lost hair for 62 weeks, some must grow back before ending tx. Good!

Thanks!

We all loose some of our hair and to what degree of thinning occurs is different with everyone..  Doesn't really matter when it starts to fall out because it's the amount each of us looses, not the length of time it falls out.  For me it was cyclic, some months worse than others.

I had 62 weeks of hair loss and no one noticed a difference except me and my daughter because she's my hair stylist.
