My family is asking for me not to care about them and not take precautions. I lack narcissistic qualities which I wish I had.
About 40% of people with Hep C do have normal blood levels.....you
can easily be in stage 3, and still have normal blood levels.
You also said your family (your mom) poked herself with yr used
acupuncture needles, which somewhat discredits their medical decisions, so it would be a better idea to get good advice from a Liver Specialist.
You also mentioned your Doc didn't want you to Treat right now, because of the (mental) issues which had you in the hospital, and that is understandable.
When an Interferon Free Treatment is available, then there will be much less psychiatric side effects. You are doing a great job, keeping up with medical appts. The labs are good at identifying any changes, so keep up with those also, and good luck.
In my husband's case, they did not use general anesthesia for his two liver biopsies. They used a light sedation. There was an IV line and then a light sedative. A liver biopsy is the best way to know what the true state of your liver is.

My family doesn't want me to get a biopsy. They said I have normal blood levels and I already had general anesthesia when I was stabbed and during a rhinoplasty which had negative effects on me. Still waiting on what the doctor says.
I am glad you are taking some meds, to relieve the stress of your OCD~I am also glad that strangers did save your life.
From what I read this morning, varices goes with "portal hypertension" , so it would still be a good idea to get a biopsy. I put off getting one for the first 20 yrs I had it, and for no good reason. They gave me an Ativan drip, to relieve any anxiety that I might have, and then it was done.
I have a severe form of ocd. I was recently hospitalized for it for 6 weeks. Seraquel, Clomipramine and Clonopin are really helping me.
I very rarely shake hands or touch public objects because I am afraid of getting a stranger hurt with hep c. Strangers saved my life.
Today I went to a meetup group thats a walking group throughout Queens and then we went to a restaurant. I gave a hand shake to most people I had 2 bandages on. one for an area where there was a wart before, the doctor said it wasn't contagious but my ocd still takes precautions, and the other finger had a scratch but no blood. During the event I noticed a gap in my skin on my middle finger. I saw some people close their water bottle cap with the hand they shaked with me moments before. I told them about hep c but I didn't tell everyone in the group. My logic understands that transmission this way is extremely remote but the fact that they had some open wounds and the fact that what I survived had a similar statistic is bothering me.
I had a viral load test and it was very very low
My doctor doesn't recommend treatment because it will affect my mental health even more.
I never had a biopsy done but since clomipramine affects the liver and because I have Hep C I think I need one.
I doubt rectal bleeding has to do with hep c.
A few years ago my sister was giving me a shot of vitamin B12 and B6 and she poked herself after me and she didn't get hep c.
My mother purposely poked herself with my acupuncture needles and she didn't get it either.
Thanks everyone
I want to add this because your original question was about transmission of hepatitis C. Hepatitis C is transmitted blood to blood as Dee has stated. It's not that easy to get hepatitis C except if you are expose someone else's blood. It sounds like you have taken the responsible route and take the time to clean up after yourself. So the chance of passing on Hepatitis C to some else is pretty much non existent.
You do have hepatitis C and its important that you get a biopsy to find out what stage your hepatitis C currently at. Also, you might ask your doctor for a copy of your PCR (viral load test). Many people come on this forum and test positive for Hepatitis C and later find out they cleared the virus on their own. So if your not sure of your viral load it might be beneficial to get that test now. It has been some years since you tested positive for hepatitis C and it would be to your benefit to aggressively address the need to know your Hepatitis C stage with your doctor. The people on this forum are not doctors. They have know way of knowing if your bleeding has to do with Hepatitis C. What is concerning is you have had extensive injuries in addition to Hepatitis C. Please see a doctor to assess your current health condition.

Yes, I was just reading about this topic, and "tarry stools" was also mentioned. Let your Doctor know you have had Hep C for over ten yrs now, it is your right to have the colonoscopy.
I am glad you have made improvement with your OCD, and ten minutes of toilet cleaning is much better than 3 hrs of it! When I was Treating my Hep C, my OCD flaired up, and since I had gotten rid of my virus, I then began worrying about getting it back again, and it was very uncomfortable.
Thank You Everyone
I will ask about these important questions and topics with my doctor.
Usually my blood was bright red which indicates hemorrhoids but recently it turned into a much darker color which can mean a lot of other things.
I asked for a colonoscopy my doctor said im too young for it.
Yes, esophageal varices are life threatening, and 911 should always be called. Theone friend Ihave, who it happened to, was very lucky, and made it to the hospital in time, he described it as coughing up a huge amount of blood, but it may technically be actually "vomited up", as you pointed out, it is from a rupture. My friend was treated successfully, and now goes back, and they check for more of them (with a camera) and then go and "band" them.
I have three other friends, all older people with Hep C ( in their 60's) who
didn't stop drinking, and died from this type of bleeding out~
Any person with Hep C should have unusual bleeding diagnosed by a
Doctor who's speciality is the liver. Surprisingly, my Gastro never seemed to know that much about my Hep C.
Boceprevirgal, I have not read about or heard of esophageal varices presenting as coughing blood, I have read about and heard that when esophageal varices rupture, the individual vomits blood and it is a life threatening emergency that requires a call to 911.
However, to stay on topic with the Original Poster, please do find out more about your Hep C and the health of your liver. Now is the best time in history to treat your Hep C if you and your doctor decide to treat it. You should also get vaccinated against Hep A and Hep B and be tested for HIV, as any of these would place additional burden on your liver.

I think it would be a good idea for you to find a Hepatologist, and let
that Doctor know that you are bleeding anally. Sometimes bleeding is a sign of Hep C, it is more common to have "esophageal varices", which causes bleeding from the esophagus, and the blood presents when a person coughs, but there is also such a thing as "rectal varices".
Because you are having these worries, it might be the best thing to just
go ahead and get a liver biopsy, and make a plan to Treat your Hep C in the near future. Right now there are many Clinical Research Studies (Trials) that need participants.
Dmitry, since you are now 30, and you contracted Hep C when you were a teenager, you have had it for 11 or more years. It will be important to have a biopsy since sometime soon in order to know the status of your liver.

I do understand the fear of transmitting to another person. Once I found out I was very afraid but then I found out that in all the years from both my sons birth until I was diagnosed in 2007 I had not transmitted it.
Unfortunately I did not find out until I had cirrhosis, we think I had it for 30 years.
It is really important to treat before your liver is damaged like mine. That is why a biopsy is important however I can understand that you came here to make sure you could not transmit the virus to loved ones. You are not ready to treat yet. There are new meds coming out sometime next year without interferon, perhaps you will be able to use one of those
I understand how you feel, you have suffered a horrific violent crime.
I hope that you have a good hepatologist to monitor your health.
My best to you, Dee
Thanks I didn't know that there is no correlation between the two.
Ill be sure to ask my doctor.
I think ALT and AST levels are affected though. I had it elevated and that's why my doctor choose to do a Hep C test.
Dmitriy,
As an FYI, your low viral count has no bearing whatsoever as to how little or how much liver damage may be being caused by your Hep C. Viral loads fluctuate all the time, and there is no correlation between viral load and damage to the liver.

Hello D,
Your concern seems very genuine, thank you.
I was stabbed 5 times with a 13" knife by a homeless man near Macy's and that had a big affect on my mental health. I am not undergoing treatment for hep c due to my mental health and low viral load. I never had a biopsy. I am taking lots of meds for mental reasons, and some for bowel improvement. I was a nursing student for 6 years I know how its transmitted its just the chance of me infecting someone and the chance of surviving what I survived are pretty much the same. The homeless man took a 13" knife stabbed me 5 times and no major organs, arteries or veins were touched. Meds are being helpful. Thanks again
Yes I have Hepatitis C
I got it when I was a teenager. My nephew got Hep c from a blood transfusion and when we went to the doctor in Queens the doctor used same syringe on both of us.
I am really sorry for your fear.
As you know HCV can only be transmitted blood to blood. Are you being monitored or treated for your HCV?
I lived with two children and never gave them my HCV.
I had several operations, they did not get any HCV from me. Nor did my Mom who came to take care of me.
Many women on here had children and did not pass it to their children. They did not know they had it. In one respect you are lucky that you know you have it as you can monitor it until you need to treat.
Please try not to worry so much.
I am worried about you, how is your health? Have you had a biopsy? Do you know what your viral load is? How is your blood work?
Good luck
D
