It depends what you mean by "have hepatitis".  You can have antibodies and not be contagious.  I have Hep B antibodies in my blood but I am not Hep B contagious.  I don't actually have Hep B.  Did have, cleared it so don't anymore...but will always have the antibodies.

However, I have chronic Hep C - active virus - and I AM Hep C contagious.  I'm currently on treatment for it.  When I clear .. I'll still have antibodies but will not be considered contagious anymore.

What is important is if the person you're referring to has active virus.  Does that help to answer your question?

hepatitis is caused  many different things. Some viruses  cause it and some bacteria and some chemicals, and various medical conditions. It is not always contageous.

If hepatitis A or hepatitis B or hepatitis C or hepatisi D then yes, it is probably contageous because it is a viral infection.
