Liver Function Test

I recently was told by my physician that I needed to see a Hepatologist due to the liver function testing coming back high.  I have had these test done every month for 5 months and each month they get higher.  I had a CT of the liver done and she said it was enlarged and with the high levels on the blood work we needed to see a specialist.  I am on medication for High Blood Pressure and Cholesterol.  I take tylenol weekly for headaches (highly allergic to aspirin).  She said that since I am on these medications that can hurt my liver and with the hepatitis all these do not look right and I should seek a specialist to check things out.  Is this something I should really worry about or is this common with the medication and hepatitis.

Those medications can definitely damage your liver, with or without Hepatitis. If your physician has not told you to immediately stop the medication, she must not be too concerned. But you should definitely see a hepatologist. If the medication is causing the swelling they'll probably have you stop the medication. I would try not to delay in setting up an appointment. There isn't necessarily anything to worry about but you should attend to this promptly.

(If it were me, I'd probably cut out the cholesterol medication right away while waiting for the visit. If you go without that for a few weeks, it won't make any difference.)

You definitely should see a specialist and find out if you have a viral hepatitis, like discussed in your other post. Maybe you can have your GP run these tests, so you got the results when you see the specialist.

You need to see a hepatologist ASAP.... It is not a normal state of the liver and it HAS to be checked further!

Good luck,

Marcia
