I'm a new grandma !!!!!

Hi everybody, Just something good for a change. After 41 weeks of tx my thyroid quit working so I was dealing with that whole mess and sides and having a real hard time with all of it. On top of everything else my son and his wife were expecting my first grandchild and I wasn't sure if I would be able to make it to see them .

Well they called Friday morning to let me know she went in (Virgina, I live in Tennessee) well I put everything aside and got in my car and left.I made it here in 10 1/2 hours (12 hour trip) and was able to be here when he was born.

He arrived at 9:46pm by c-section (was just to big to have naturally) He is HUGE  11lbs 4.8 oz. and oh just so precious.

I have never felt so good since starting tx as I do right now.
Even though I haven't slept in days it is so worth it.

I even did my shot here and was actually able to function  the next day. It is amazing what Love can do for your body soul and mind.

Hope everyone else is doing good and will check in when I get back home         Kim

That is so wonderful. Wow!!  I thought my new grandson was huge at 9lbs 11 oz. Yours is a biiig baby, but still so little, you know?

I was able to get to the hospital and wait with my daughter less than 12 hours after my 4th shot.

You are so right, love can do amazing things, no way I could have dragged myself out that day for any lesser reason.

Good times are ahead for you.

that is a precious spring gift, absorb all that positive energy... and that baby scent...ummm...I can smell him from here.

I am still waiting to be a g-ma.

As for the power of distraction, I guess that is why Lamaze works if done right, you refocus your attention and sides are minimized or "forgotten">
I always remember a whale watch trip, where after over an hour in the open ocean, tummys began to get woozie. At the scream of "dolphins ahead", EVERYONE looked over and followed them as they gracefully rode the tow...  Nausea magically dissappeared and never returned during the trip.  refocusing can change how we feel.

Dollface, Congratulations on the new grandson!  What a wonderful blessing for you to have a new baby in your life.

Ambush, how are you feeling with your thyroid problems?  I hope you are getting some relief.  I'm definately feeling better now that I'm done with tx and my thyroid levels are coming back down.  I'm so happy to have spring be here and to have gotten through such a hard winter.  I just got back from the dentist and my mouth is numb, but that's OK.  I'm glad to have the work done that I put off during tx.  caruu

caruu, I'm feeling a little better, but it's slow progress. I'm keeping my chin up. I saw the endocrinologist yesterday and the ultrasound showed my thyroid is just about gone. (I wonder where it went?) He's doing some other bloodwork to check the rest of my endocrine functions for other autoimmune problems, etc.  I'm hoping to get my numbers back within reason so we can extend tx for a month or two.  Doc says OK as long as the anemia and thyroid situations are looking better.  I have mixed feelings because this Saturday would have been #48 and my last shot. Part of me is screaming "NO MORE DRUGS!" but a bigger part of me wants to raise odds of being done with this forever. Patience is hard to come by lately. What's the word on your thyroid?  Does thyroid function sometimes return to normal after tx on its own or is it a given that you'll be on thyroid meds for life?  It's so great to hear you're feeling better all the time. Please send some of that spring weather to NY ~ we're still freezing here!

First of all cograts to all you new grandmas. I am sorry to say that i am going off tx. I can't handle all the pressure of raising 5 teenagers and working and trying to mange my finances when i don't have any sick time left. Sorry to have let some of you down but there has to be another answer soon

Long time-no hear.  How have you been?  I'm doing shot #47 this Saturday night. You and caruu are scaring me with your thyroid problems.  The doctor never even had mine checked! I hope mine is OK.  Other than lab reports did you have some odd symptoms that alerted the doctor to check your thyroid?  Did you stop tx?  Regarding the weather.....it's about 38 degrees and pouring buckets here again in Massachusetts.

You haven't let anyone down.  You can only do so much and this treatment will wipe some people out, even on a good day.  I have one 8 year old and sometimes I feel just like you feel.  I cannot even begin to imagine trying to raise 5 teenagers and keep your job and your life on track, even if you weren't on meds.  If you don't feel like now is the time to do it, then maybe later down the line will be a better time.  I don't remember your specifics and whether your have mild liver disease or are further along in the process.  But if you decide you just can't do the meds right now, then make sure you eat/drink/live as healthy as possible until you decide you want to try again.  But please don't think you let anyone here down.  This is a personal decision that you must make for yourself and you have our whole hearted support no matter what you need to do for yourself right now.  Take care.  Keep checking in with us and we will be there for you.

Hi raheem ~ I haven't been here much lately...been in bed for awhile.  Sorry to scare you on the thyroid stuff.  I had some pretty bad symptoms that pointed towards thyroid trouble: face and hands were swollen and numb, extreme pain and weakness in my arms and hands, dizziness, slow speech and mental function, fatigue, constipation and more. All very different from the "usual" tx sides. I'm still on tx, although the doc reduced my Riba to 400 mg per day and started Procrit 3 weeks ago due to the thyroid trouble and also severe anemia.  I kind of fell apart at the last minute. I think you might be aware if your thyroid was a problem, but I'd make sure he checked your TSH, etc, to be sure.  I wish I had been checked for it more often and I wouldn't have gotten so sick before they caught it. My TSH was 77.58 before I convinced them to take a look. My first doc told me upfront that tx could affect my thyroid but said it was a small price to pay to kill the HCV and easily managed. The Pegasys sheet shows only 4% of patients have thyroid problems, so don't worry too much....I think you'd know by now.  I hope your last couple of weeks go by swiftly and soon we'll hear of your success!  Take care ~

Dollface.......WOW! 11 1/2 pounds! How did they get the "Crane" in there to lift that "Bad Boy" out!! I bet Mom was big as a house too! The NFL scouts should be there soon......sign the contract. As you are near the end of your tx....can you even lift that boy up?? At that weight you could combine him into your exercise routine. Just pickin him up will take care of your "cardio" exercise for the day. I bet all the "girl" bebies are eyein him already......CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Raheem......Most of the Thyroid problems happen to the females on tx. I don't want to say it "never" happens to males....but I haven't seen any men complain of it in here. My doc checked my tsh levels every 12 weeks or so as part of my bloodwork. They did it as part of the regular blood draw. As Ambush explained....if you had a prob;em with your Thyroid.....you would probably know it. The sides of that problem are pretty noticeable.
