Injection Site Reaction?

Shot # 2 was this past Friday and so thankfully so far it really has not been bad. (Worse problem is the darn insomnia!)  But I have one little concern I am hoping some of you will have the answers for.  Three days after injecting #1 the site developed a redness of about 2". I did not think much of it at all - and just sort of took it as an expected response to the Peg.  It never went away or even really faded though.  Injection site # 2 developed same area of redness exactly three days after shot but this time there is some itching today also. The only other difference is that there was some bruising this past time also.  We have been using the Gold Bond and the Aveeno as we read about here.  The skin has not developed any flakiness, bumps, etc. it is just red.  Hubby is starting to fear that he will have 24 of these spots on his body which will not go away.  Can you all reassure me at all?  Is this normal?  Do they fade in time and eventually disappear?  Why the itchiness this time?  Is there anything we should be doing differently?  Thank you so much for your thoughts...

Thank you so much for the reassurance!  It sounds like we are doing it right and just have to wait them out!  He is already using lots of Gold Bond (in the green bottle) - and we do ice packs right after injection, but now I know to try that during itchy spells also!  And I have him drinking well over one gallon of water daily.  And he will be so happy to learn they will go away soon!  Thanks for the help and the encouragement!

Redness and itchiness around the injection site is very normal.  You inject the solution into the subcutaneous fat where it sits until it has been distributed around the body.  The red spot will generally last 3 to 4 weeks.

I also get a little itchy around the site for about 12 hours or so after the shot but i find that if i just put a little ice, or a cool flannel, on it the itch subsides.  I also try to keep that area moisturized and make sure I am drinking lots of water!  I had a bruise once when I jabbed a little too hard and it faded out after a couple of weeks.

All the best :)

I noticed the same red spots at the injection sites. Didn't really bother me-maybe a little itch.  (i just did #4)

I decided I was going to make them into a smiley face.  :-)

Sure enough-right when it starts to look good-#1 faded.  There goes my fun :-(

My way of saying I think they are normal.  If the itching becomes bothersome, maybe the doc can suggest something.

Glad to hear that the sx are being kind to you.  Hope you continue to do well!
