Interferon and the Immune System and MRS O.

Has anyone else noticed since they have been on Interferon that their immune system has been greatly STRENGTHENED?  Everyone in my family and everyone at work is very sick...except me.  I stopped and realized last night that honestly - aside from the sx flu symptoms stuff...I can't remember the last time now that I had the common cold or a flu bug or something.

I really believe that the Interferon DOES teach our immune systems how to fight.  Alot of us do go through white cell problems - mine have finally settled out even though my doc did not ever put me on Neup but preferred to let my body deal with it - but aside from those issues I really think........I am the healthiest I've ever been in my entire life.

Has anyone else noticed while people around you seem to drop like flies of the bug ... you don't?

I have to admit - always having been the one to GET everything...it's really AWESOME to be the one who does NOT.

I just didn't really THINK about the INF doing this - I mean we focus on the IFN killing the virus but this part of it's job is just HUGE and I hope it continues!

I'll take a couple of colds a year and the occasional flu bug over what treament does to the immune system any time. Yes, it turbocharges it up, but an overactive immune system can potentially cause more problems than it solves. Sort of like Don Quixote seeing every windmill as a giant. My lingering post treatment skin problems were no doubt in part caused because my immune system is still fighting phantom invaders in the skin. Again, give me a common cold anyday :)

I too didn't want to jinx myself but...couldn't help it. While I'm watching everyone use up all their sick days and hacking all over the place here and at home...and I dont have a sniffle I'm like WOW this has NEVER happened before!  I haven't been "sick sick" since I started treatment over a year ago!  


Niceguy - I don't worry about the thyroid AT ALL. There is a good chance that it will recover AFTER treatment and if not it's just a little pill every day...beating this stupid disease is well worth it. The thyroid won't kill me but the liver damage could...so its worth the trade off.  :)

but i get some GERD sometimes..ive never been on ttreatment and gonna be startin this month.

that is so WEIRD! I was just thinking about the flu and cold this week, with my coworkers sick and my daughter with sore throat for over a wk, and I felt only a twinge in my throat for a while and then, nothing else.  I don't want to jinx this by talking about it, but I have not felt a cold or the flu in over three yrs.

nygirl... that is some nice stuff u've said... i mean that wud feel real good to have ur immune system strengthened...i wish it were true.  but u have ur thyroid problem too...and i feel sad cuz of that.

on a related note, i've been taking herbs for 3 months.  i havent gotten a flu since, even tho my entire family has several times.

Eric had his first shot Friday and so far has had NO side effects - I was up all nite checking on him. In fact he says he feels better than he has felt lately! He does take seizure meds which make him drowsy - the first day - Sat he felt tired but no more than usual - now he says he feels more energized - the riba? He is sleeping OK and eating. Young people seem to tolerate treatment better but I didnt expect this to go so well
