I received 2 test results

Hi All,
Well I went for the PCR test on Monday and an abdominal sonogram on Wednesday.  (I don't think they took the whole test because I don't see a genotype, probably have to follow with a liver doc for that) Results:

HCV RNA IU/ml        495000    H      Ref <50 IU/ml
HCV RNA QN PCR       5.69      H      Ref <1.70 LogIU/ml

Abdominal Sonography:

The liver appears echogenic and mildly heterogeneous compatable with hepatocellular disease.  No focal mass lesion is identified.  The liver is not enlarged measuring 14.0 cm There is no biliary dilitation with the common duct measuring 0.3cm The patient is status post cholescystectomy the aorta is non aneurysmal The pancreas is obscured by overlying bowel gas.  The right kidney measures 11.1 cm and the left kidney measures 11.1 in crainiocaudal dimension.  There is not hydronephrosis.  The spleen is not enlarged.  There is an hepatopedal flow within the portal vein.

Anyone out there have any thoughts about these results. Should I get my affairs in order?  Thanks for any feedback.
Judy

Ken's a lighthearted guy, but he sounds about right.  You'll need a liver biopsy for more specific determination of the amount of liver damage, but having internal parts about the right size is a good start; if you are a type 2 or 3, your doc may not een require a biopsy.  Your viral load is low, which is also good.  They probably took enough blood, so I suspect the genotyping is being done and you'll hear from your doc.  No urgency here to set your affairs in order, unless you have a mortal enemy, or something... I'm sure you know, IF you do drink or use any drugs, it's time to stop all that.  Also make sure you don't take any medications that are bad for the liver.  Good luck!  As long as you already have HCV, I hope it's genotype 2 or 3.  MN

Thank you very much.  I can't explain what I feel right now, hoping to be that first false positive you've heard of.  Trying to figure out all the reasons that the test could be tainted. but here it is and I'm handling it. God chose not to give me a clean bill but he also tempered the blow and I'm grateful.  Yes I plan on having a bx. But must have major back surgery on Sept. 23 or I'll lose the ability to walk, so I might wait until that's over.  Nonetheless, I'm not drinking, eating well, resting often and taking one day at a time.  Thanks for your support and good wishes mine go back out to you as well.

Question about the viral load. The way it has been explained to me a viral load given in IU/ML has a multiplyer to convert it to EQ/ML. The converter can be anything between 2 to 5 with an average of 3 if you do not know the number. To convert an EQ/ML to IU/ML you divide by 3. Most of the charts use the EQ range so 495,000 would be multiplyed by 3 equaling 1,485,000 EQ/ML still not to bad Am I right in that is how it works?
