My wife, aged 62, has had elevated liver functions for several months. An ultrasound scan revealed nothing. She has just had an X-ray in France which has shown what appears to be a thrombosis in the the right branch of the portal vein. As best I can translate the report, its says that during the arterial phase there is a reducion of vascularisation. In the later phase there is a partial opacification of the branch. Further back on the branch there appears to be a "hypo" dense formation with swelling of the vein. There also appears to be dilation of the biliary pathways in segment VI. An MRI scan is recommended but it will take a month or more before she can have one. In the meantime I am concerned that the "opacification" might be a growth. The local French doctor can only say that we have to wait to see the MRI scan before we know what it is. Does anybody have any comments?
