I just got my 12 week results.......CLEAR. Has anyone seen any recent studies about stopping treatment at 16 weeks? I remember a few months ago, there was some postings about that and I want to print out any findings to show my Doctor.

Congratulations on clearing!! Are you thinking about stopping tx at 16 weeks because I'm thinking you have an excellent svr going the 24 for 2's!

If 24 weeks makes a difference is the SVR, I will go ahead and do another 8 after the 16th week. I was just hoping to be able to stop, but, other than fatigue, my Sides haven't been that bad. I've already gotten my shipment from the Pharmacy, I just hate looking at it, and I dispise "shot night".

Great news. Thanks for sharing it. Most of the studies I have read regarding extended tx address either slow responders or relapsers so I don't have anything really on point. Good luck. Mike

Sorry about the reference to extended tx - I was thinking about another posted question. As to stopping early I haven't seen anything definitive on that and I wouldn't think it advisable. Mike

yes i remember that study too.  but the standard protocol for 2s is still 24 weeks presently.  im not sure if any doctors anywhere are actually following the protocol of that particular study.   it sure is tempting to stop  the tx.     i am 2b and went 28 wks actually due to a few things. and am clear now  6 months post.  good luck and hang in there.   you can do it.

I for one would like to encourage you to stick it out!  I also hate the shot but you really are fortunate to just be experiencing fatigue and not that bad of sides.  Its not that much longer and will go by quick and I like to think of giving it your best and then you know you did everything you could. If you are discouraged come here, because this is what everyone is here to help one another. Good Luck to you!!

I was 2B as well. Cleared at 8 weeks but continued treatment until week 25. Still clear after three years post treatment. I would stay the course unless there is medical proof that says otherwise. This would only come from a study and not sure they would have that type of information at this time. The virus is microscopic and hides very well. The last thing you want to have to do is start the treatment over again. Having said that, my Doctor told me that if you do 80% of the meds over 80% of the time, it is par with doing 100% meds & timeframe.

Regards,
Barry

I cl'ed @ 18dys & fin tx-24wks.  2b.

Shorter tx is being touted for cost saving measures-not the patients best interest.  Cont'ing tx seems to help reverse fibrosis and help heal other minor damage.  It is wistful thinking to think you have no damage at all.  Afterall, even a small cut or infected pore can leave scarring on skin that is visible.

I've always kinda wished I could have cont'd the shots and skip the riba for a while longer, just for the healing properties.

B/ i likened the next 21 1/2 wks to a 'mop up' exercise to get rid of any 'lurkers' in those infamous 'reservoirs.'

So little is known about hep c, b/cont'ing tx can only help, won't kill you and is the current standard.

sorry to break this thread, but I am very limited as to when I can get online since I moved to the country in East Texas. For those that don't know I'm 3a with 450,000vl. I'M NOW 5/24 WITH VERY MINIMAL sx! Reds, whites and homoglobins are holding their own very strongly and my GI said yesterday that my cirrhosis is reversing. I'm happy as a lark. Knock on wood that I will be returning to work end of May or early June. Couldn't have done this without ALL the prayers and support from this forum. Will keep you informed when poosible. ~Neal~

It sounds as if you are in 7th heaven...good for you...

I am not sure how long it will last, but these few days had been some of the easiest as far as fatigue goes.  So, i will enjoy as long as it last.  #42 down. ? to go.
