Man, oh man - do I feel lousy today ................. (and other posts)

Let's see ..... screaming headaches, mouth sores, waking up every morning about 4AM or so, speedy and wiped out feelings - all at the same time, space-cadet central, a short burst of flying off the handle this AM at the wife, strange tingling in the fingers, skin so sensitive that I could jump right out of it, aching eyeballs, joint aches out the wazoo.......

......You know, I think I could really get to start liking this combo stuff!!!

I just took 7/48.  My new friends Peg and Riba are very unpredictable!  I can feel pretty good one day and the next a Mac truck has hit me head on.

I totally understand about the headaches!  My head feels like it is caught in a vice grip!  I have been taking the generic version of Fiorinal.  It is aspirin, caffiene and phenobarbital -no narcotics.  Really takes care of the headache.

I have had mouth sores for a couple of years.  It was suggested that I take folic acid, vit C and L-Lysine.  All these really helped decrease the amount and severity of the sores.

Hang in there.  Getting rid of this beast is worth it!

Don't forget to take 400mg of Folic Acid per day. It's the only thing that stopped my mouth sores.......in three days!!

Also, before they went away, my Doctor prescribed Triamcinolone Acetonide Dental Paste, 0.1%. It worked wonders as an overnight application.

In addition to the mouth sores my voice is going, going, gone... my question is is all this within the realm of "normal" sides? I am in my 7th week, off the Riba only for the week because the mouth is sooo bad. I have had 3 scripts for it and more over the counter stuff than I knew existed. It is not really improving yet. I don't know if they will put me back on the riba next week or not.

I am getting so frustrated. Will these problems resolve eventually, do you think? Because this new horror almost every day is getting mighty hard to take.

Hope you get feeling better. Of all the posts here your's seem to me to be quite informative. I'll see a new GI next Tuesday to review my labs and biop and hopefully set a date to start. I hate to sound ignorant but I'm a newbie...could you clarify some of the abbreviations used on this forum for me (when you have the time and energy)such as tx  and any of the other commonly used acronyms. I'm going to probably go this alone as I divorced 2 yrs. ago. Of course now I am realizing some of my marital pitfalls could have likely been attributed to my liver disease; anger, depression and the list goes on. I know I didn't ask for this but to be brutally honest I might have sped it up by drinking myself silly during and after my divorce. blah blah blah. I appreciate your courage and hope I can be half as strong as you once I begin riding the buckin' bronco. Your new friend, Neal from Texas

Drink the fluids they really do make a difference. Try to keep yourself occupied with something. The thinking about how bad you feel seemed to make it worse for me. Last Riba pills tonight and I'm done. I'm already making myself feel better. The mind can do wonders for us during and after TX.

Nothing so far has fixed my mouth sores. They took me off the riba for a week, this is day 4, not better yet. My doc finally prescribed some lidocaine for me to "swish" and that buys me a bit of relief.

Hopefully, this masochists dream life will one day end for us.

I'm sorry that you are having problems with your mouth as I'm sure that can be so painful.  I know you said you were getting off the meds for a week but I was wondering at the time if they would even be out of your system enough for 1 week for you to even notice any relief to your mouth.  Any other thoughts from anyone on being off just the 1 week of meds.  Because it only makes sense that you would have to be off longer periods for it to leave your system.

What...with a beautiful day like we have here today and you're not feeling good? What in the world is happening to us ???? Wait till summer hits us here, it gets harder PLEASE make sure that you are drinking enough fluids, and if you do get to venture out bring a good pair of sunglasses with you. Hopefully the sides will get better. Good Luck.

I haven't had the mouth sores, but my mouth was so dry and sensitive.  I've been using Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash.  It's an antibacterial and helps to keep ph balances, etc.  It's really soothing on the mouth.  Helps from being so dry.

Right now my scalp and shoulders itch so bad I could scream.  The doctor gave me some shampoo and a foam for my scalp.  Tends to dry it out.  My skin is like a snake, it flakes and peels. I'm always reaching and stretching to scratch!  My husband says "Can't you be still?"  "No, I itch."

My blood counts have been on a roller coaster, so I have CBC with differential done every week.  I've had to skip the Pegasys a couple of times so that my Absolute Neutrophils could come back up.  I'm taking Neupogen for white blood cells every week and Procrit for Red Blood cells every other week.

These are the only really bad sides I've had.  Except I keep waiting to loose weight.  So far I've gained about 10 pounds.  I'm a 1a-stage 3, with Cirrhosis-stage 4.  I'm at week 24 of 52.  Waiting right now for my viral load results to know if I'm undetectable.

I believe the proper term is bringing urine production to new depths. I will however, match you quart for quart. Since Peg (my new girlfriend), I go hourly with an urgency that is overwelming.

Love the opera baby. My stepson and wife just had a baby so I will immediately send it to them.

Yeah, I feel like hell too. Every morning usually. It takes me about 3-4 hours to shake it ...

You have a really good attitude about all this -- humor and a positive fighting spirit is also really good medicine isn't it?

Keep fighting -- what sides we have today will certainly change tomorrow. It's like the weather in Wisconsin.

Hey...Sorry to hear you're feeling so lousy....I don't mean to sound rude, but welcome to the world of tx. sx. I had a "hell" of a time, did 48/48 finished in nov and still feel lousy as **** some days. I was recently diagnoised with fibromyalgia.
If your mouth doesn't get better get a script for "majic mouth" from your GP....and when the pain gets too bad in your joints and muscles...get ya some pain meds. I stayed on loratabs thoughout tx. Then went off pain meds after I finished tx. Stayed off for about 6wks and I was about to die w/ pain!!! So now I am seeing a pain specialist and she increased my loratabs that my GP gave me. I have to take 10mgs 4x a day. I am going to start tx. for fibromyalgia @ a rehab @ sports medicine office on the 26th of this month. Going to try to build up some muscle mass I lost while being a couch tater while on tx. Dude I wish you the best, and I love your humor! You are always in my prayers, Cindee

TnGuy.....I LOVE your attitude! Sure you feel bad....maybe more today than yesterday, but maybe not as bad tomorrow. It's all about how we look at it and handle it all. We all deal with the sides as they come to us, but you need to keep it all in perspective. YOU are doing that. The depression is caused by chemical changes in the brain. Laughter is a DIRECT counteraction for that. True laughter causes the relaese of endorphins and stuff in our brains that DIRECTLY counteract the chemical depression effects of the meds. If you can maintain your attitude you will make it through this just fine. I know it's hard sometimes but you have all the tools inside you to get through this. I can SEE it. ALWAYS apologize profusely to your wife and family for any outbursts and remind them every time that it's NOT you....it's the meds. You CANNOT control it once it starts.....just try to deal with the aftermath as soon as possible. That's the best we can do with this stuff. Flowers and candy usually work well. My florist made a FORTUNE on my tx time. They still send me reminders now that they are ALWAYS availiable to rescue the "buttheads" who can't shut up.
Nolee...Welcome to the "Club". It doesn't matter to us how you got "IT" or what your past is. We all live in the "present" here. Most of us have "checkered" past lives. Confession is good for the soul though so you can always feel free to just "Vent" about anything with us. We are "Family" here. Nobody judges anybody else here. So you may have sped this up with your behaviour in the past. Whats important now is that you are deciding to DO something about it now. That's what we are here for.....to help each other through this. If you do decide to do tx(treatment) then we will help you through it all. Hang in there and realize that you are NOT alone with this anymore. We are always here for ALL who need some help............

Hi Tri

It is a rollercoster ride. I could of not gotten this far had it been without the help of these people on the board and the grace of GOD. One thing that I have had to get back to is that it is a shot at a time and a day at a time. A friend I just met up here put it in perspective and said when he started tx his first goal was could he toleratie the meds, the 2nd was would he respond to the meds, the 3rd was could he clear. I had clearing as number one. I have had to for my sanity change that around to the last.

Just don't expect anything from tx that is standard. It seems to go the way it is supposed go. There are options and the people on this board know about them.

I am trying just to go with it now and not fight it that is what I did for a while and it made it all the rougher for me..

Relax and let it flow. Good or Bad

GOD BLESS
Bob L

Hang in there kiddo.  I've found that I have one really bad day and then two or three days when I feel pretty decent, considering.  Of course, I can't say I have the sides you do, but I know that there isn't a minute that goes by that I couldn't just lay my head down on my desk and go to sleep in a second.  You will get your second wind and feel better soon, so hang tough.  Buy your wife a card and tell her how much you love her.  She knows already, but it's a good thing to hear also.

Are you gettin dehydrated, man? It's easy to do, I felt like complete warmed over **** Monday, pounded the Gatorade to get me back to being properly "watered", and I feel like the normal **** I usually do.

Of course this won't cover your wife episode, I find now instead of just a short fuse, I have no fuse at all. I go right from calm to furious without so much as a second.

The Remerol they gave me has been a life saver, it helps me sleep, I'm actually hungry like I used to be, and it takes the edge off to the point of being like Ozzy Osbourne (SHARON!!). Just stay away from ATV's....

Take care man, this too will pass.
