Metallic Taste

I am in week 15 of treatment and 3 weeks post-incivek.  I now have a very pronounced metallic taste in my mouth which seems also to suffer from dryness.  I have been using biotene products for weeks for the dry mouth but this pronounced metallic taste has really come on strong.  At times it is difficult to eat or drink.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to minimize this side effect?

I'm having this on Vic, but it began even as I started tx-I love Hot Tamales!Dentyne Pure gum helps also. The positive side of this is that I have now gone 2 days w/out smoking and the thought of the smell/taste is off-putting to say the least.

If nothing else works, try holding a magnet in front of your mouth. I wish I would have thought about it when I was going through it.

I have this now with VIC.  At first, it was tolerable, but as time goes on, it stronger.  A couple of things my nurse suggested help, at least for a little while:  Big Red Gum (I have tried Trident Cinnamin gum and it is just not as effective); Ice Cream.  And Hot Tamales candies have helped me.  Other candies helped in the beginning but now, all bets are off.  Hope it gets better for you!

I never took the Inc but had it for almost the entire 72 weeks. It was a very common problem way before Inc and Vic.

Thanks for you comments.  I really didn't experience this while on incivek.  I guess I should be thankful that I don't have to choke down 60 grams of fatty metal every day....lol!  I will try the gum suggestion and have noticed that some hard candies help while others make things worse.  Really very interesting.  I will also search for the thread.  Thanks again.

I really don’t think it is the incevik. I believe it is caused by the Riba. or Interferon. The reason I say this is because we had this same discussion long before incevik. I wish I could find the Thread. Maybe someone else remembers and can find it.

Strange that the taste is worse post incevik.  That was the first improvement I had when done with incevik.  The riba changes your taste too.  Chewing sugar free gum helps me.  Some hard candy can help but the tastes are all different.  Sips of water may help cleanse your mouth short term.
