Yes.  A pill is what I was given.  It can be used twice a day but if I used it in the morning I was good for the day.  Morning was worst for me as far as the nausea.

If you need the pharmaceuticals,  Zofran during the day and phenergan before bed.  the phenergan also helps you get to sleep  with no lasting effects during the day.   Worked pretty well for me.

From  http://www.rxlist.com/phenergan-drug.htm

"Phenergan (promethazine) is used to treat allergy symptoms and prevent motion sickness.

What should I avoid while taking Phenergan?

Phenergan can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall. Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase some of the side effects of Phenergan. Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. Phenergan can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, and a sunburn may result. Wear sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher) and protective clothing if you must be outdoors.

Phenergan (promethazine) Tablets and Suppositories may impair the mental and/or physical abilities required for the performance of potentially hazardous tasks, such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery. The impairment may be amplified by concomitant use of other central-nervous-system depressants such as alcohol, sedatives/hypnotics (including barbiturates), narcotics, narcotic analgesics, general anesthetics, tricyclic antidepressants, and tranquilizers; therefore such agents should either be eliminated or given in reduced dosage in the presence of promethazine HCl."

My husband has Ondansetron in the arsenal, but he uses it rarely.  For the most part, he finds ginger ale and small pieces of bittersweet chocolate help when treatment nausea hits.  Sugar free lemon/fruit drops helped sometimes, but it's sort of a nice safety net to have the rx meds at hand if the nausea turns to vomiting.

As a cirrhotic, it's important for you to maintain adequate protein, so if you find nausea is preventing you from eating properly, you might want to supplement with protein drinks to make sure you're getting enough nutrition; if you find you can't keep things down, then it would definitely be time to haul in whatever is needed, as much as we hate to add more meds to the mix.  Hope the nausea gets under control soon! ~eureka
