Neupogen

I am supposed to receive Neupogen tomorrow.  Did my peg shot this morning.  I'm sure I will get  instructions with the med but it's good to get some input from those who are currently treating with it.  Are we supposed to wait 24 hrs after the peg shot to inject Neup?  Should I inject more slowly than I do with Peg?  Docs office told me to reduce peg today to 135 mcg but I didn't (me not listen -  what a revelation) because I knew I was getting the Neup tomorrow.  About how long does it take to raise the whites?  I will go for another CBC on Thursday so if I inject tomorrow will it work that fast?  ANC has been averaging around mid 4 to 6.  You would think the docs office would have gone over this with me but they didn't.  If anyone would can give me a heads up I would certainly appreciate it.

Back to your question ......    my hemotologist did tell me to wait 24 hours after the Peg before doing the Neupogen.  They counteract one another.  So either 24 before or 24 after.  It works fast.  As low as your ANC is, your doc may tell you to take it a couple of days in a row.  You can take several safely according to the hemotologist.  They do it all the time for cancer patients.  I never found the Neupogen to burn -- only the PRocrit.  Good luck.

Did you say cupcake? No thanks, on a low sugar diet which will be hard considering the holidays are upon us. All the good fatty foods and sweets are now becoming a thing of the past as we move away from the site of impact. Of all the cupcakes I've loved before the last one got mad and closed the door...

I think I do need to go in "time out" now that you mention it!!   I have been educated enough from some very savvy members (starts with j ends with m) to know my knucklehead doc fooled me once (week 6 & 7) with dose reduction but he's not going to fool me twice.  Didn't mremeet say climbing up and down the stairs will shake loose the neutrophils and help raise the ANC?  I think I'll try it Thursday morning b/4 my CBC, but check on me Thursday night -  I may have keeled over from a heart attack cause I live in a 2 story with 16 steep stairs.  LOL

That should have been..."now go to the corner and sit on your ANC".

I am sure it will work and might improve your attitude also. Neup is no more, no less than procrit, suck it up will ya.

I only got one injection of the neupogen in before treatment ended so can't speak to that except the procrit and neupogen were done on alternate days from each other and from the interferon.  That's alot of drugs to pump into a body in one day and spacing them out is a good idea.   I understand the neup is much faster acting than the procrit. Good luck with the neupogen and hope it helps.

I was on Neupogen from the 4th week of peg injection(48 wks) and I was instructed to do the Neupogen on Wednesday and Friday night was the Interferon. My 24 hour hotline nurse told me 48 hours to avoid interaction and the boost for WBCs 2 days before. It takes 24 hours to raise the WBCs and they peak at the 4-5 day which is the when the interferon lowers them. hope this helps. :)
Many blessings,
proud48.

goodies neupogen.  i've been on it since wk 4 and now wk 24.  i take it every wk on sunday nights and i take my peg on fridays.  i thought they were suppose to be 24 hrs apart but my doc said that wasn't necessarily true.  at one point, i was on neupogen 2X weekly, but everyone is different.  some people get it at the beginning of tx, some at the end, some all the way through, some don't get it at all.

i get best results when i give it on sunday after my friday peg cause it allows my whites to grow before next friday's shots if that makes any sense.  and make sure you let it warm a bit before you inject or else it will sting!  overall,  not too bad, has become a routine for me now.

good luck!

My GI started me on neupogen two weeks ago when my WBC had gone down to 1.2 and my ANC was .2 he told me to take one shot every day until my ANC was at .75 and to go for CBC daily. After 2 shots my WBC was 17.6 I don’t know what my ANC was since the nurse ordered the CBC w/out the differential. So I stopped the shots and decided I would wait to do the CBC weekly. On Tuesday my ANC had dropped to .3 so I did the neupogen on Wednesday morning and did my interferon on Friday morning as usual. From what I can tell the neupogen works fast and then leaves my system just as fast.
I let the neupogen sit out for about 15 to 20 minutes and don’t shake it b/c it’s syrupy compared to the interferon and the bubbles that come from shaking won’t leave so you’ll have to throw away that vial. Because of it being thick it leaves a bump at the the injection sight but that’s gone in less than thirty minutes.
According to the druggist it's best to do the neupogen 24 to 48 hours before the peg shot, he said not to do them on the same day because they work against each other
Good Luck and hope you have no sx.

Thanks for the info.
What's the time frame between peg and neup?  Do you inject both meds on the same day or a day apart or does it even matter?

Hey, It injects just like the Peg, MAKE sure you bring it up to body temp (I put mine under my arm just before injecting) because it will burn alot if you don't. It hurts just a little after injecting, unlike Peg  wich I never feel. It works really fast, really well. It has my #s so good, high really, ANC @ 4700, in just 4 weeks that I am going to every 2 weeks. jerry ps I wouldn't reduce either!
