does this qualify as a platelet drop?

hi guys,

im 25 years old, HCV genotype 3, infected less than 4 years, VL 12000 IU/ML.

i'm kinda worried about my platelets...

The following measurements have been taken.

June 15: Lab A:  271,000
June 15 Lab B: 348,000

July 1: Lab C: 241,000
July 30: Lab C: 239,000

September 5: Lab B: 222,000

As you can see, the month of July showed no drop in platelets with Lab C, which is the most reilable lab in Japan.

But if you look at the Lab B measurements from June 15 to September, it shows a rather steep drop.  The normal range is 150,000 to 400,000.

what do you guys thnk? i'm worried about cirrhosis, and considering waiting a year for the new meds to come up.

Sorry to jump in, but I just wanted to pass this along.. Has everyone seen this? It is very interesting, or should I say disturbing news for those still infected.

Here is the link
<a href="http://www.hivandhepatitis.com/hep_c/news/2006/090106_b.html">sharing toothbrushes</a>

I do not know how much merit this study carries, as my wife and I have shared toothbrushes for years, even razors. I'm sure others have as well. But what  a study such as this does, is add to the stigma and prejudice already present.. Now we shouldn't even be kissing another individual, according to this article? I would like to see transmission rates, for factors such as these to carry any merit in my mind!

I have had "arguments" with several people about this, even a nurse practitioner who has never worked with a hepatologist. I refuse to argue with anyone over this subject anymore. I think they get it mixed up with hepatitis B and also HIV.
Here's my take, if it was so easy to get hepatitis C half the country would have it by now. It has been on the decline since 2002.

It is blood borne and you should not share toothbrushes or razors, or nail clippers. Perhaps you or your wife do not have bleeding gums. I do.

People should never share toothbrushes, period. You don't have to have Hep C, everyone should use their own toothbrush and not share with others. I thought this was common sense and common knowledge. My Mother is a nurse and cautioned us as children not share toothbruhes with anyone because you can spread all kinds of germs.

I have warned everyone in my house to stay away from my toothbrush. Last week I found 3 toothbrushes in the toothbrush holder on my sink. I freaked and threw them all in the garbage. I think it was the 11 y/o and told her AGAIN. I use an electric one, but I don't want the kids to think they can leave toothbrushes around my sink. I do use reg ones when i travel.

Hey Kalio!

Glad to see you feeling well enough to post today. I met Goofy yesterday for lunch and it was nice to have a real conversation, instead of snipets in posts. I saw him looking around for me and I realized he had no idea what I looked like! From the night of the living dead descriptions I have given about myself in posts, I was sure he was looking for someone in that looked like a zombie! Luckily I saw his pic on the Aussie site.

From what your lab says is normal range, I don't think you have to worry at all. Your platelets are well above low normal. Perhaps the supplements are causing the drop?

Here the normal is 130+. I started at 121 on tx. They now never get to 121, but go down to 60 and up to 113. So I am told not to worry to much, as tx does this. I know you aren't on tx, but I would not worry until your platelets are below the normal range.

LOL!!!!!
I just love this.. "I thought this was common sense and common knowledge" As stated above..
Yes it is, but sometimes the wife may grab the wrong toothbrush in the 5 am rush for work, or one might fall in the trash or something so one might just use the others.. Now that is common sense.
We sure don't have one toothbrush in the house for everyone!! Oh, but common sense could have told ya that?
