quantitive or qualitive, which is best?

I don't understand why my second gastro had the qual test done.  My first gastro did the quant and it showed <10 / undetected ve the qual that just said negative which is great.  Thank you for any and all explainations

The qualitative Pcr is more sensitive than the quantitative.  Qualitative looks only for the absence or presence of the virus.  For this reason, it is more sensitive than the quantitative, which measures the amount of virus.

Pretty good.  Still mean as a snake.  I think the sx are beginnng to level out because I don't have the ongoing fevers and fatigue isn't so bad.  Thank goodness!!  I'll know the 2nd wk in July how I'm responding (12 wk PCR 7/1 - even though I'll have had 14 shots)
so hopefully I'll get a least a 2 lg and maybe UND but I can't too excited about that.  So, that's pretty much it.  Volunteered to work for one of the girls this weekend - WHAT WAS I THINKING!!! so got to get ready for work.  Take care.

the qualitative test is more accurate and is a better test once you have acheived SVR. Of course baseline and during TX you want the quantitative.  looks like you had the right test. congrats!

Hi Denise,

Don't know exactly why that happened but they did the same thing to me with my baseline.  It was ordered correctly by the doctor and hospital but when they sent it off to the lab they did a qual instead of a quant so I never had an accurate baseline.  IDIOTS!
Maybe your doc's or one of the staff ordered it incorrectly to begin with.  I would think he would want the most sensitive test available post tx to ensure you have remained UND.  But like you said, negative so YIPPEE.  I hope you a continuing to feel better each day and I think about you often.
