PEG-INTRON dose by weight

Hello every one,

I would like to ask that my mother's weight is 60 kg and dr. recommend her 80 microgram dose of peg-intron injections with 400mg Virex capsulse. While I have read on Peg-intron literature that its dose is given by weight. For monotherapy use 0.5 microgram/kg/week. For combination therapy 1.5 microgram/kg/week...i think my mother case is combination therapy (injections + capsules).And for 60 kg weight injection dose should be 100 micrograms. Please advise.

i weigh 58kg and im on 180micrograms of peginterferon and 200mg ribavirin tablets. I dont know anything about the weight ratio

Actually we live in Pakistan. I have found very rear doctors to be sincered here. In 2006 ma mother has been treated with intaferon...n after 1 year of that treatment her PCR report resulted as activated. She has been injected with three PEG-INTRONS till now (once in a week)... We will test PCR Quantitative after 4 injections. As report will come, i'll share it with u too.

Thank u very much Epi. Its really very kind of you. I'll go the Dr. and will discuss. Actually this issue came in my knowledge by taking second opinion from another Dr. Who brought notice on this dose value. Yah u are right dose value comes out at 90. But in market Peg-introns are available in 80microgram & 100 micrograms packs.

I'll share with your goodself as soon as i'll consult with the Dr.

I did a little research and I found the following table which would suggest your mother's doctor has presribed the correct amount:

Scroll down to page 2 and refer to the chart on the right. It appears that the stregnth of the peg-intron is also a factor to consider into the equation.

I would still talk to the doc about it, I am sure he will be able to explain to you.

Perhaps you should raise the question with the doctor and see what he says, or you could seek a 2nd opinion from a hepatologist.

Interestingly, if I calculate her weight to dose ration giving the figures you quoted it comes out at 90!
