i thought it was normal to wait that long 4 a biopsy...our govt is very sad as there are people dying every day waiting 4 transplants etc and im told mine is a proceedure where i wont die if i wait...its madness eh.
God forbid you go to the emergency dept at any hosp in Queensland as the hospital up the took ma friend of mine who had chest pain to the hospital in an ambulance and sat her in a chair as the trolly was needed and there were no beds left in the emergency dept so she had a 7 hour wait 2 c the hospital Dr.
She had had a stroke whilst waiting...very bad.
I cant affort private but as soon as its my turn 4 my biopsy im in there as fast as my little legs will carry me.
Thanx all 4 ur support and i will continue to visit this site

Good to see you post.  There is also a test that you can get which is a simple blood draw.  It's called a "Fibrosure" and is often thought to be about 85% the accuracy of a liver biopsy.  They are relatively cheap ($350.00 US dollars+/-) and pretty quick and painless.  If you truely have to wait that long you might ask about this test.  Many doctors aren't aware of them and so you may have to ask foir this.

Take care,
Willy

wow! 2 years for a biopsy. that is ridiculous and almost criminal. So let me guess, the biopsy results take 6 months to get :-) Something is wrong, there must be someone in the goverment that can help. Best of luck

gee thats a heck of a long wait for a biopsy.

what you should do then, it to get a complete iron panel to see if the spots are iron deposits....this is a simple blood screen ans shouldn't require a long wait. Then if the high iron is causing the spots, they could bleed you safely while you await bipopsy and treatment. If your iron is high its best to get it down before tx anyway, since you can't be bled during tx.  If your iron is showing up as red dots on your legs...it means it is laying down eccess iron in your liver which greatly contributes to the whole disease process.
So even if you have long waits on biopsy, I'd try to see to the vomiting and spots right away.
Hope you feel better.

Hi Kiwi, glad you're back. All the best with your appointment. I think it should be possible to get a biopsy much earlier in Australia. I don't think they are allowed to keep you waiting for 2 years. The actual biopsy is a procedure that takes less than 3 seconds. Please check again with your doctor about it. There are some detailed Australian sites about HCV and treatment. Check this one. There is a lot of good info on it, which might be more relevant than US or European sites. Under 'information' there is some good stuff concerning 'national hep c strategies'

Pleas keep us informed and ask whatever questions you might have.

Wishing you all the best.
