Pain relievers

My doctor doesn't give me alot of feedback- what is the safest pain reliever to use during treatment-Tylenol or Aleve? I've read conflicting information. Does anyone take anything else for joint pain? Also, what type of vitamin supplement helps the best-I've read not to take one with iron. Thanks.

Just a note for those of you taking aspirin"  My own hepatologist
to;d me years ago NEVER to take aspirin, only to only take Tylenol if needed.  Aspirin thins the blood......the liver doesn't need that.

There ya go again! :)  I look for yours and Ring's posts knowing that I can get a "quick fix" smile out of them.  I'm still waiting for blood tests to come back and I consult with the GI on the 12th and schedule bx same day. So, very new and very intimidated by all of this.  A smile, for me, is my "quick fix" miracle drug each day.  So please, if you must, brush your teeth, order your take-out, and PLEASE continue to post!  Thanks,

Jamie

Re: Welts.  My first one didn't pop up until 1 week after first injection, and now that's how my skin reacts.  It takes a week for the welt to come up.  From reading different posts here from "old timers" they suggest leaving the needle in for up to a minute after the dosage has been injected.  I guess to make sure that all the medication is off the end of the needle tip before you withdraw it.  A lot of them said this method worked, so I am going to try it tomorrow night for shot #4.  I'll let you know how it works out for me.

Up here, we call those red spots at the injection site "hockey pucks".  I used to collect about 4 or 5; in the later months, they were very barely visible.  Some people get better results injecting into the abdominal area; fewer reactions, and it's more out of sight.  Stay at least 2 inches away from your navel.  Into fat is good, if you have some.  Pinch up some "skin" before you inject, and also make sure the alcohol is all evaporated (if it gets in, it's very irritating).  Someone who really loves you can give it to you in the rear...  MN

I'm with chevy, jonis and jg, drop in and update us on the latest "events". How is Mr GAD?  I did not realize until your arrival how humorless my life had become.  My boyfriend would watch me in front of his e-mac, laughing histerycally and wonder if i was done for.  Some one mentioned the delphiforums.com (24hour forum and chat) maybe we can avoid the ultrasensitive and humorless there.

yuca; all work and no play.... this was never meant to be a "professional board", is patient to patient and we all have to sort thru tons of hellos, congrats, etc many times over, ease of, please.

I've never heard of Vitamine E having an effect on clotting. Vitamine K is what has to be avoided.

Kimmy...............Isn't Celebrex tough on the liver? It's a Cox II inhibitor like Vioxx. If it's really OK, that's what I'll load up on!

Morphine sounds good-I work at a hospital, wonder if they would miss a bag or two a week! I tried some free samples of celebrex, but then I found out it is not good for the liver. I'll ask about the other suggestions. Haven't been able to go to the SENIOR version of the vitamins yet, sounds like I need to. Thanks.

Dr. put me on Mobic 15mg - he says its not great for the liver but much better than than some.  I have weaned myself off but will hang on to it for emergencies since I'm only 4/48 this Friday.

I have 3 welts showing on my legs this morning...all three itching.  It's my old injection sites.  Why am I getting a reaction 3 weeks later?????  I put cortizone on then and they became redder and more raised.  Thank God it's not swim suit weather.  I look like a leper.  LOL!  Any help would be great!

PS - To those just starting; it really DOES get better.  I listened to the great people who posted here and started back on my meds after I quit from being so sick.  I thought I was just a weakling and gave up...but after listening to the "old timers" I started up again and it REALLY has gotten better.  God Bless all of you!!!   Kathe :)

Hey, I used lortab, same as hydrocodone while on tx. Now that I am done since Nov 6th, I still have to take them off and on. Hope you feel better, sometimes your doctor will send you to a pain specialist. Best Wishes, Cindee

For me tylenol/aleve didn't work on my joint pain but aspirin did. It was amazing to me how well it worked since the pain was so bad. I rarely had to take more that 2. I did talk to my doc/hepatologist first. A multivitamin (without iron) like Centrum silver is what I've personally seen most recommended. Sorry to hear your doc isn't so helpful. Is there a nurse in his office you can ask these questions? This is what I often do. I usually have to leave messages but eventually they get back to me. LL

I take 1 of day senior (no iron), vitamin b- Complex but my doc said no more E because I have low platelettes and E can make the bleeding worse and harder to clot.   Joni

Hi, Kat,
Multivitamins similar to Centrum Silver are fine (iron free).  I added Vit.C, E, a super-B complex, folic acid, zinc and calcium.  The extra vitamins are mostly anti-oxidants, and help cells heal.  I had fewer side effects than in my first tx (, which I had to stop early); however, the first time I took PegIntron combo and the second time Pegasys combo.  Maj Neni

I take vicoprofen, because tylenol is not effective for me.  the others wear out too fast, and you end up taking more, this combo I take is effective for me and I don't have to take that much.

As for vitamins, no iron and no niacin I was told by the doc.  antioxidants is fine.
