Please answer my question

i was very active and had energy before infection. Unfortunately, in 2002, i had a bad company and hence started smoking then drinking and seldom used HASHISH (i think it is abstract from opium which is used after mixing with tobacco of  cigarette).

On 21.01.03 i went to my friend where i drank very little, after that i took 2 or 3 pouf of Hashish Cigarette. After 5 Minutes i started feeling very bad. My brain started working very rapid with too much confused ideas. My heart beat went upto 120/m. I felt myself full of energy. I went to ER. Doc gave me slipping pill. I took it and went asleep.

Next morning i was quite OK. But day by day i developed following symptoms and was on the bed within 10-15 days and was not able to walk even 100 steps.

1.    Extreme Tiredness (particularly in Legs and this was very prominent symptom)
2.    Lack of appetite.
3.    Crazy heart beat (sometimes)
4.    Anxiety.

I went to many docs but no doc could understand and detect my problem. On 11.02.03 i went to a doc who took my CBC, Anti HCV and SGPT.  CBC was normal. Anti HCV was + and ALT was 149. I did not get my PCR because I decided to not take interferon+ riba tx.

From the date of detection of HCV to 20.09.08 i remained on multi-treatments i.e. herbal and Homeo. My ALT reduced yearly. But fatigue and tiredness remained same for 5 years of infections. I have some question for which I need some answers from you all:

1. How I could I get infected with Cigarette and drinking etc because it is only blood born infection?
2. Suppose, If I was infected from my childhood or early before started drinking and smoking then why the symptoms appeared at that time and before that I was quite healthy and active?
3. Why im feeling the same fatigue and tiredness as before tx ?(as im 3 months post tx now)

Hey Ali,
Lighten up on yourself.  A small minority get psychotic symptoms after trying wacky-backy.   You have retained your sanity (I think lol) throughout tx;  now is not the time to start beating yourself up over history.

It's blood-born, yes; not transmitted through saliva.  It doesn't really matter how you got it unless you're trying to guestimate the amount of damage you've got.

As for EOT?  When I did the tepid old mono-therapy in 1994, I was still feeling tired and dehydrated after 3 months, and, even though I'd relapsed, I was feeling fine again after about 6 months.

I'm 6 months since EOT and still feel some of the affects of the meds.  Try to be a little more patient with yourself and remember, you are still a 'patient'; so you can still 'be a patient' and allow the healing to take place.    Look back over your old posts and you will see that there has been much improvement since tx,  so your poor ole body IS healing and readjusting.....

please don't take this the wrong way but with your history of posts here have you ever considered seeking mental help? Your posts describe you as a very obsessive person always worrying. Try and relax so you can enjoy life. Best of luck

I agree with everyone-Ali you are having flash backs-Pot, Hash, Opium and peyote etc. tends to make some people obcess about their health until they become a little neurotic.  My Hepatologist told me that about 3% of patients who have taken Tx never clear the side effects-He was the 1st and only bona-fide Medical Doctor in 4 years to tell me this and I saw plenty.  He also said that as time goes by that number will increase.  But what are the alternatives?  To live with the flu like symptoms can be hell-I at least now know I'm not crazy!  Am off the ADs and the brain fog is clearing.  As for you-see a Psychiatrist and get, if you can, a light dose of Xanax-.5 mg is the smallest and it will help your anxiety.  Of course this is only a suggestion.  I've passed the bong a few times and could feel my heart beat; my brain cells frying-some of us like that-it's why we toke-some people become frightened.  I have a friend we call Too High and no one will smoke with him because he always freaks out and ends up calling 911!  It's called panic attack.  Relax, find a distraction and stop taking your pulse or you'll end up like a hamster in a wheel.  Okay?  Frank

Bad hash; it's not like it's FDA regulated or anything, you never know what you get.  You got the disease another way, not from smoking hash or drinking.

Your bad reaction to the hash did get you diagnosed with HCV, though.  If you never treated with interferon + ribivirin, you still have HCV and feeling bad may just be symptoms of the disease getting worse.  Go see a hepatologist and start the work-up to begin treatment.  Herbals can reduce some symptoms of the disease but they absolutely cannot cure it.  It's still with you if you never treated with interferon/riba.

Sorry to hear you are feeling bad.  Three months post tx is not so very long, though, and you may need more time to regain your strength this time.  You had a difficult second tx and its a little harder to come back this time.

Like most of us, you will always have unasnwered questions about how and when you were infected, and why the course of your illness went the way it did.  I wonder too, but I try not to worry too much about it.  You will find a way forward, and the more of your energy you devote to finding the way, the sooner you will feel better and in control.  You are very young to have been fighting this terrible disease so long, now is the time to heal and make a good future for yourself.  Cherish yourself a little and try to look forward, not back.

Hashish is not an opium extract as you suggest. It is the resin from the marijuana plant mixed with a binding agent to help it hold together better. Marijuana and hashish are normally very benign substances. They definitely will not cause hepatitis and the sort of symptoms that you describe. The only way to catch hepatitis from a marijuana cigarette is if the person you are sharing with has a bloody sore on his mouth. He must now transfer blood onto the cigarette and pass it to you. You now must have an open sore on your mouth. You must place your open sore over the blood that your friend left behind and the blood must be present in enough quantity to contaminate your sore. Pretty unlikely. The feelings you describe having after smoking the hashish is probably a panic attack. You were scared and uncertain about what you were doing and when you felt the effects of the smoke you panicked.
I could safely say that you got the hepatitis by some other method than you suspect and that the symptoms you are now experiencing are probably related to the hepatitis. I suggest you leave your treatment options to be decided by qualified medical people and that you listen to them and accept their suggestions as being your best chance at ever feeling any better. Although herbal remedies might make you feel a little better they will not cure the hepatitis or slow it's progress down very much, if at all. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

There's quite a bit of opiated hash in that part of the world.

Alijee finished treatment 3 months ago (his second tx) and I think he is just obsessing now because he is not bouncing back from tx as rapidly as he did the first time.

First of all i would like to clear that it was my first tx not second.

I also like to tell that in these days ihave no tension, depression, anxiety or obsession. I posted my question only to reveal the truth that how did i get hcv? Otherwise i m good enough these days, enjoying life and fully satisfied about my lab results which are getting best gradually. Tx was very hard to me but i have recovered very fast. Now i can walk 3-5 km.  Only one problem which im facing is tiredness nothing else.

well it's unlikely you got it from smoking Hash !  Ever had a tattoo? Blood Transfusion? ever shot dope using the same needle and syringe with someone? Shared a straw snorting coke or Meth with a nose bleeder? I've heard it can be transmitted sexually in certain circumstances but I am married 40 years and my wife is  virus free and my 3 children.  Maybe you smoked so much hash you did something else you can't remember?  Ever played blood brother with someone?  Back when I was a Navy Corpsman you wouldn't believe how many times I was told by fellow mates: I got the Clap off a toilet seat!  Does it really matter how you got the virus?  Only if you clear and repeat what you know you did in the 1st place Alijee, does it matter.

AbstractGoals: To determine whether the smallpox vaccination program has significantly contributed to the widespread prevalence of hepatitis C infection in Pakistan.

Background: Hepatitis C virus has become a worldwide pandemic and has especially devastated developing nations such as Pakistan. There continues to be an increase in fatalities due to hepatitis C-related cirrhosis in Pakistan.

Study: We studied 523 volunteers in the city of Lahore to determine whether the smallpox vaccination program, which ran from 1964 to 1982 in Pakistan, may be responsible for the national surge in hepatitis C viral infection, perhaps because of repetitive use of vaccination devices without proper sterilization or to contaminated vaccine contents.

Results: There was a significantly higher likelihood of hepatitis C antibody seroprevalence in individuals vaccinated for smallpox versus nonvaccinated individuals (21.0% vs. 4.6%, P < 0.001, age-adjusted odds ratio, 3.39; 95% confidence interval, 1.36-8.46). Subjects with positive hepatitis C serology were also more likely to have a history of transfusions (19.2% vs. 9.0%, P = 0.01), but anti-HCV positive serology was not significantly associated with a history of surgery or dental procedures. Following adjustment for age, sex, and history of other conditions, including transfusion, the association between prior smallpox vaccination and hepatitis C antibody seroprevalence remained strong and highly significant (multivariate adjusted odds ratio, 6.11; 95% confidence interval, 2.58-14.51).

Conclusion: These results suggest that the widespread prevalence of hepatitis C infection in Pakistan may be an unintended consequence of the country's smallpox vaccination program and that blood transfusion is also a significant risk factor.

It's good to hear you can walk 3-5kms now, that your post treatment results are looking good and that your only problem is tiredness.  If you have the same fatigue and tiredness as before ... perhaps copyman and R Glass have something there...you do seem to have a high level of anxiety about most things and that amount of worrying would wear me out too.  I'd look in that direction and I mean that in the best way.  Sometimes physical tiredness is a result of mental stress.  At least something to consider.  All the best and hope your test results continue to come back well and that you can get at the root of your tiredness - and good to hear that this is your ONLY problem.  Good luck.
