Pricing & Patient Assistance for Telaprevir

This is my understanding of the patient assistance programs for Incivek. The list price, which no patient will have to end up paying, is $49,200 for 12 weeks. HOWEVER, the patient assistance programs, are more than generous. Typical Co-pay for the three prescriptions that will be needed will be between $50 and $250 each.

Vertex will cover co-pay or co-insurance costs up to 20% ($10,000) of the total cost of Incivek for people who have private insurance plans that cover Incivek, regardless of household income.

There is a free medicine program for people who do not have insurance and have an annual household income of $100,000 or less. Medication will be given for free from Vertex.

There may also be a referral to the Patient Access Foundation, an independent non-profit for people who do not have private insurance i.e. Medicare or Medicaid. The program provides assistance for people who earn up to 400% of the Federal Poverty Level. This is approximately $44,000 for indiciduals and $84,000 for a family of four.

If you go to www.incevek.com you can get a case manager to take you through the insurance maze and you can read more about these programs. Or you can call 1-866-837-8394.

Hi Willing. thanks for figuring that out. It is pretty pricey but at least the assistance programs they are describing seem more than reasonable to me.

thanks Susie - I was wondering what the deal was on pricing (an issue on my mind lately). So if I'm reading this right 49200/12 is 4100 per week vs. 1100 for victrelis? Duration is longer for vic but inci (trying to get use to the new names) still seems a lot pricier. For naives who clear after 4w of vic and will do 24w the difference is 24*1100=26400 vs 49200. For re-tx and naives who still have vl  after 4w of vic the difference is 32*1100=35200 vs 49200.

Sorry Cindy. You are right. Thanks for posting the correct number. I was in a hurry and probably read it wrong on the site.

I think it will take a few days for the insurance companies to get their act together. Good luck with treating.
