Redipen confusion

Last night I used my redipen for thw second time. My doc has me take benadryl an hour before. Well last night the benadryl hit me kind of hard and I was a bit out of it. I mixed the meds and attached the needle when aklot of fluid leaked out. I noticed that I could not see the window to see if it mixed properly. Then I sort of paniced although I should have just got a different pen , I dialed and administered. So now I am not sure if I received my dose at all. Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do? I called my doc and Im waiting to hear back. I am afraid she will think I am an idiot. The pharmacy was no help at all! Ugh!

They ALWAYS leak a little. You get the hang of the whole business with more experience.  I sometimes found it hard to see in the window, too, but  I think once you set the dose, maybe you can't see it anymore, can't remember.  If the back cap pushed all the way down, then I think you got the dose.

My very first pen malfunctioned and never happened again.  It jammed and the dose dialer could not be moved.

I had a problem with a pen once and I called the Schering Plough 800 number and they sent me out another pen. Luckily I had 3 left so it wasn't an emergency. I did however, lie  about what had happened to the shot. I told them that I couldn't see any fluid in the window. A few people talked to me and I felt really bad for lying but I had actually forgotten to take off the top cap off  so when I pressed the button the shot kinda petered out of the tube at the top. I was wondering why it didn't hurt and why my stomach was wet! lol . I felt like too much of an idiot to tell them that so I made up the fluid thing. Anyway, what I'm getting at is it is totally possible to get another injector pen. As long as you don't do it every month! LOL Best of luck. I do think you should talk to your doctor though because if you got some medicine in your system, I really don't know. You absolutely don't want to take too much and another full dose might be too much.

The first time I was on Interfueon I had to put the saline into the little vial with a syringe  and mix it with the powder, recumbanent or something. It was easier to see how much you were injecting that way, but I guess they are pretty precise with the pens. I prefer to fill my own syringe or get a pre-filled syringe I Hate hate hate injector pens.

You can call the manufacture’s nurse hot line at Schering Plough’s Commitment to Care; they have educating RN’s available 24-7 to take calls; I think you have to register online first, to get set up though.  You’re not the first to have this happen; I’ve heard from many others that say those things are leaky contraptions. I’m certain they’ll ship you another pen if it happens again; in the meantime, about all you can do is hope most of it got into the tissue, and be careful from here on out.

Welcome to the discussion group, by the way; take care,

Bill

PS: there sure have been a lot of 'Summer's' posting in here lately :o)
