Rescue drug for immune system

Hi! It's been a while... I'm beginning week 19 of treatment.... My neutrophil count is at the limit ...
Might need the rescue drug that you have to inject...
Has anybody ever have to take this? How did you react to it? How often did you have to take it?
It's also very costly...
Please let me know... I read the side effects and I'm just as freaked out as before deciding to treat in the first place....Are there alternatives?
Marie

The rescue drug for low ANC is neupogen.  I began 2x per week injections at week 8 after my level went down to 300 (or 0.3).   Depending of your current level once a week might be sufficient, but certainly the doc will guide you.  I was told some experience an achy bone reaction, but I have had no reaction.  The good thing is the ANC will rebound quickly for most people.   Cost will depend on your insurance coverage and there might some assistance if needed.

What is your absolute neutrophil count (ANC)?

The only alternative, and it isn't a good one, is to lower the dose of interferon. I would avoid that at all costs. I was on neupogen for 5 months. At first I had a bit of leg pain that responded to tylenol. That stopped after the first week and I really didn't know I was taking it. It is very expensive.
