That's the spirit. No sense in giving up everything we enjoy.., all things in moderation. I like my sweets and since I'm not diabetic, nor overweight, I refuse to say no to all my sweets. That's not to say that I run around eating a bag of candy or a bowl or ice cream or a piece of cake every day. But, I don't want to live to 100 and go the rest of my time eating wheat grass and kale and an apple, or I'd be miserable and bored with eating. So, I like your spirit.
What can I say I do eat raw oysters on rare occasions say maybe once or twice a year. I know it is dangerous for us but I guess I gotta draw the line somewhere.
I refuse to tip toe through life, only to arrive safely at death.
Might be that kind of thinking that brought me to where I am now but I have few regrets.
For me, it poses as much risk as drinking a drink of alcohol.... I can't enjoy 'a glass' of wine. If I was to decide to drink at all, I would only be interested in doing it if I could get a buzz from it. So, that's why I've chosen to remain sober from alcohol for the past 19 yrs. I never turned into the alcoholic stage, but with the Hep C diagnosis and knowing how I was when it came to drinking I made the decision to just stop it. Now, with shrimp, I love eating it occasionally and I don't feel that the once or twice a month I eat it 'cooked' that it's any more harmful to me than eating fish 2-3 times a week. I feel like most of us, have some vice or have to 'choose our poison' and feel that life is too short to just analyze everything I eat, or drink. With that being said, I'm not going to go and down a 5th, goggle up a bunch of raw oysters, or take 10 Tylenol.., I'm not that stupid!
I'm an entertainer and was performing in a restaurant for an event one night in Las Vegas. There was a sign on the wall. Beyond belief! It said "If you have liver problems, it is advised not to order shellfish". I would imagine that includes oysters, clams, mussels, shrimp, lobster and the like. I asked my doctor about this and he agreed. He stated that many times shellfish is tainted with mercury and other chemicals from oil spills and so on that they ingest on foods the eat in the ocean.

Like someone said above, it's Hep A that you CAN get from shellfish. I was told, years ago, after I was first diagnosed to. A. Be vaccinated against both Hep A and Hep B, in order to prevent getting either one of those viruses. My doctor told me that it would be extra dangerous if you get Hep A or Hep B , while your liver was already fighting the Hep C. So, I got the Hep A and Hep B vaccines. He also told me that it's better to avoid raw seafood and to only eat cooked shellfish. I don't eat alot of shrimp, but I do occasionally eat it cooked and enjoy it very much. And I've never had a problem with it.

You can get Hepatitis A from shellfish but, as hrsepwrguy said, you cannot get Hep C from shellfish. You also cannot get HIV from shellfish.
No
