Risk of getting hep c when sharing straws?

I recently shared a cocaine straw with someone who I believe is infected with hep c. What are the chances that it could be passed to me? Is the risk high or low? How soon can I get tested? It suddenly occured to me that it could be passed that way and now I'm completely freaked out! Would you have to be sharing numerous times to get it or just a couple? I'm greatful for any information.

According to my GI, sharing staws in one of the most common ways to contract the virus.  It is also listed on the Peg web site as high rish for Hep C.

I agree with those above, the stuff out there today is so cut and poluted I would be afraid to even try it.  20 yrs ago, coke was coke.  Now it is full of chemicals, baby powder and lord knows what.  Stay away from it!  Wait a few months and get tested for HCV.

These days you are so right coke isn't even really coke anymore - the chemicals that they call coke, well I can't even imagine what they could do to someone.

Anyway - this is HOW I got hepC back in the 80s.  I never had done IV drugs back then or had a tattoo or nail salon or anything but I DID snort a lot lot lot of cocaine. So it is very possible and in fact makes perfect sense when you think about it.  Since most addicts don't care how they get drugs into their bodies - and someone who snorts a lot of coke would likely have a lot of nasal tearing and abrasions and stuff - micro droplets that you can't see could EASILY be passed from moist membrane to the next.

it's not only that you can catch hepC this way - but having a drug habit isn't something that anybody just thinks is going to happen to them....they figure they'll just do it once, or once in a while and then BAM! Habit.

And then..........hepC can be pretty much a given and NOT the worst thing that can happen to you by a long shot.

My advice - don't snort anymore coke then you don't have to worry about it.

It was very different back then - always bad for you but...in some ways I'll be honest I think back "those were the days".  Being young and stupid - we just had fun and didn't worry about the consequences that we are paying for TODAY.

I mean heck - 40 was OLD I would never be THAT old for real!

Even though it was indeed cut back then - it was a very very different thing.

But it doesn't make it GOOD either way. Just that youth is full of stupidity (naivity).

I didn't plan on growing up to be a drug abusing fool.....you know?

It is cited that cocaine use with a straw is a possible method of transmission because the cocaine bursts the nasal blood vessels.

You should wait a few months and get tested.  During that time this place is a good place to hang out for information and support.

BTW:  stop doing cocaine.
