Scalp Shampoo amd itchy

The Group

It has finally reached a point that I have to ask the the group
Other than having to call in for a special prescription from my case nurse is there some specific products, over the counter, that can be reccommneded to soothe the alligator skin I have on my forehead. In addition any shampoos.
I dont have much further to go with treatment, but i would still like to look almost the same at the end in 4 weeks.

LOL, no I'm not on atkins anymore (is atkins the low carb one?). I seem to be able to keep my girlish figure now without too much effort, although I still opt for lower carb choices when possible. And I did give up my luxurious mega-carb microbrews. Sticking to michelob ultra now for the most part. Who knows though, maybe they'll come out with a pond scum microbrew soon? They'll call it "Frogger's De-lite"...or something. ;-)

I took blue green algae, or pond scum as I called it (amongst a whole bunch of other stuff). It didn't help me, I didn't feel any different. I still had HCV, fatigue and an ever fibrosing liver. The only thing that helped me was IFN + riba + VX950. I'm cured now and feel MUCH better than I did before when I had HCV. My liver is also healing now, hopefully in a few years it'll be as good as new again. Spirulina could never ever do that rocker, c'mon man.

THIS IS WHAT HE SAYS...hes lying

They are very expensive and heavily promoted as miracle supplements. They are good sources of chlorophyll, but there is little or no research supporting the claims made about the algae.

Do you know who Dr Weil is? He's pretty much a recognized alternative medicine guru who also happens to be a real doctor. He does not blindly dismiss any and all alternative medicine claims. In fact he doesn't blanketly dismiss the possible benefits of coconut oil, he openly acknowledges positive research (limited as it is) as quoted above. And the fact that he's an MD certainly makes him no less qualified to comment on the matter when compared to the various ****.com websites (especially when he's not making any money on coconut oil).

The evidence that coconut oil is as comprehensibly good for you as you seem to think it is, is mixed and controversial. It isn't the slam dunk that you seem to think it is, and risk remains for those who ingest coconut oil in terms of its high saturated fat content. Here's what Dr Weil said about it, and there are other reputable sources that basically say the same thing:

http://www.****.***

Q: Is Coconut Oil Good for You? I would like your input on virgin coconut oil. I have been reading that it is very good for you and has been getting a bad rap.

A: Coconut oil is one of the few saturated fats that doesn't come from animals, but like other saturated fats can raise cholesterol levels and, therefore, should play only a very limited role, if any, in your diet. In the past, it was widely used in movie popcorn, candy bars and commercial baked goods but was phased out of many of them because of consumer opposition to unhealthy tropical oils.

Now coconut oil is being promoted as a weight loss aid; it is also touted in a book by a naturopathic doctor. The rationale goes something like this: as a source of medium-chain triglycerides (MCT), coconut oil isn't stored in the body as fat as readily as oils composed of long-chain triglycerides (LCT). Some research from McGill University in Canada suggests that this is true; MCTs also boost metabolism and satiety, and therefore may promote weight loss when they replace LCTs in the diet. Because they are so easily digested, MCTs are given in hospitals to provide nourishment for critically ill people who have trouble digesting fat.

Promoters also note that coconut oil is high in lauric acid and contains trace amounts of caprylic acid, both of which appear to have antiviral and antifungal properties, and support immune function. Lauric acid is actually present in breast milk; infants convert it to a substance called monolaurin that protects them from infections. These two fatty acids and their effects on health are being studied, but for now, we don't have any evidence suggesting that coconut oil is better for you than other saturated fats. The benefits of coconut oil in the diet, if any, are likely to be minimal, and until we have more and better evidence about coconut oil's effect of metabolism and potential role in promoting weight loss, I do not recommend using it.

Andrew Weil, M.D.

Liver: The presence of medium chain triglycerides and fatty acids helps in preventing liver diseases as they substances are easily converted into energy when they reach the liver, thus reducing work load on the liver and also preventing accumulation of fat.

Its called Natures Way Efagold Coconut Oil.  It's organic, pure extra virgin.  I haven't eaten it plain yet.  I will try it that way in the morning with my riba.

I did saute my shiitakes in it last night and it made them sweet.

I absolutely love using it on my skin tho!!  Yes, I even did the nose thing because my nose is dry and itchy.  Makes life smell better, for sure!!

Itchy scratchy scalp has been one of my major sx and the only way I found around it is to use a shampoo and conditioner that contains NO Sodium Laurel Sulphates (SLS) at all.  If I do, my head itches and burns and I find that it spreads all over my body.  Which would make sense as when I wash my hair in the shower the residue runs over my body.

I am using only natural products on my skin and scalp now.  You can get organic ranges that have no SLS in them.  There is a range called "Giovanni" or "De Lorenzo" Tricho Series which is my favourite.  Or you will find plenty of inexpensive SLS-free shampoos at your local Health Shop or Organic store.  Btw, it pays to read the fine print on all shampoo and cleansing products as some may other ingredients that you may not wish to use.

Nioxin has SLS in it so be careful if it is the SLS you are reacting to.

I also moisturise with a 10% urea based cream that has no lanolin in it and I wash with  a Pinetarsol solution.

I really hope you can get on top of this, it has driven me to distraction in the past!

All the best :)

I use System 2. I think it's different for everyone. I have baby fine hair and haven't used color for the past year. My stylist determined the type I needed.
