In fact, moderate to severe joint and bone pain, along with edema of extremities, are all uncommon but well- documented side effects of pegylated interferon tx.i don't have edema but have severe bone pain, so severe I need Oxycodone pills and Norspan pain control dermal patches. My heap, who is a leading researcher in HCV tx and HCV/HIV confection tx tells me he has seen a couple of cases of serious joint and bone pain.
My NP said my cough was from the riba, they reduced the dosage and its improved.
Although I've experienced muscle pain with interferon, the swelling is a new one to me. Of course you should talk to the doctor.
There are some mild things that reduce swelling like arnica or bromelian.
I'll be thinking of you and hoping all of this is better in the morning:)
Since you're only on Peg and Riba, I'm really confused. I know that mild to moderate muscle pain or joint pain is a side effect, but severe muscle/joint pain and swelling in your arm seems unusual. I looked again at the information for both Peg and Riba and didn't see severe pain and swelling listed as a side for either. I really encourage you to watch both of those symptoms as well as your cough. Watch for continued sign of infection, edema, hypertension, vascular problems, etc. Could it be possible that you may have a blood clot causing pain and swelling in your arm? Take care, and I hope you can get some relief today.

patches, so sorry to hear about your ordeal. i can't believe you had pneumonia in addition to sx from tx. i'm sending you some <<>> and prayers. take extra care of yourself. belle
Hi. I would not tough out the pain, as it affects blood pressure (my other docs have told me). You can also check with your specialty pharmacy to get more information on Advil & Tylenol. I think it depends on the condition of your liver too. They no longer sell Tylenol where I live, and I need Advil for Arthritis. Best wishes to you!
Hi there. Was just thinking about you yesterday and wondering how you were doing. So sorry you are in pain. Soak in some Epsom Salts when you can. Maybe some Bengay or Thermacare Patches will help. Actually, ice, especially for the swelling in your hands.
But I am still HCV undetected as far as that goes. Just took viral load last Thur.
yes they are going to x ray my lungs again on the 12th. I have not taken procrit for a while now. I am just on 400 ribo and then the peg. I told the doctor once before, the nurse said that they didn't know all of the side effects and that could be one, but I dunno. I am going to send them an email to let them know what's still going on. They just gave me pain pills for the pain.
Hi patches, I remember that you had a transfusion and then went on Procrit for anemia. Are you still on Procrit? I know that mild joint or muscle pain is a side effect of Procrit, but severe pain or swelling is something that I would suggest calling your doctor about if you are still on Procrit. Will your doc re-Xray your lungs to make sure the pneumonia is cleared up?

OMG, you had pneumonia on top of this. I'm so sorry to hear that. I wake up in the middle of the night with joint pain in my hips. I have thought about taking a pain reliever, but the jury is still out as to which is the best to take. My doc said advil, but many others on here have said their doc's said no advil, take tylenol. So, I just decided to fight through the pain. I have never had swollen hands so I really don't know what to tell you. I just want to say good luck to you and you are amazing to keep going after getting pneumonia.
