Scissors hep c

Hi, my mums test came out positive for hep c in the end of december and we all took tests immediately and mine came out negative, but a few days ago i had used her nail equipment and stuff, and decided to go for a test. The results are not yet back and i was wondering what you think and if i should worry because lately i have been having abdominal pain in the left and right, and have recently had indigestion after eating two days in a row.  What do you think, and what are the chances of me getting it? I dont think there was blood on her scissors but i cut my skin deep and though i dont think blood came out, it was deep.  Also i went to the doctor and after using omaprozole, my abdominal pain went away.  Any thoughts?

Hello, I am so happy that Ceanthus was able to answer your question. She is wonderful at helping others.  I agree with her that your chance of contracting is none. I had HCV for 30 years before it started to show symptoms.  In that time I raised two sons and they are negative on their tests
Best wishes

I think you are suffering from stress, and it is quite understandable with your mother's new diagnosis. I think it is unlikely that you've infected yourself with her manicure equipment, but this is one of the very few methods whereby people can get it from a housemate, so there is a tiny but of risk. You must make a rule from now on the no one else uses her manicure or barbering or shaving equipment. That is the rule, but still your own risk from this one episode is quite small unless your mother had recently (within 4 days max) bled on this same article that you cut yourself on. The risk of your abdominal pain or indigestion being related to this are zero. Hepatitis C doesn't cause any symptoms like that, at least not until you've had it for 20-30 years and its had time to destroy your liver. One of the best things you can do for yourself right now is to educate yourself and your family about this virus, so you'll know what you do and don't have to worry about. I suggest going to the hcvadvocate.org website first. There are lots of other good ones, but this one is the easiest to read. Good luck!
